Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about La Parenthèse des Capucins? It’s this gorgeous maison d’hôtes tucked right on Cours de l’Yser – and honestly, the location is brilliant in a way that most tourists wouldn’t immediately get. You’re literally walking distance from the Capucins market (hence the name), which means Saturday mornings you can grab fresh oysters and canelés without dealing with the tourist crush around Place du Parlement. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone facade that glows golden in the late afternoon light, and I mean, with a 9.7 rating, you’d expect something special – but this place actually delivers on it.
The owners have this knack for details that you don’t really notice until you’re settling in. Like, the rooms have these impossibly comfortable beds with linens that feel expensive (they probably are), and the breakfast setup – well, it’s not your typical continental buffet situation. They source stuff locally, which sounds clichéd until you’re eating jam from some tiny producer in the Dordogne that you’ve never heard of but suddenly need to track down. The whole vibe is more like staying at your impossibly chic French friend’s place than a hotel, if that makes sense. There’s this quiet courtyard where you can actually sit with coffee in the morning without street noise – and trust me, that’s rare this close to the city center.
What I really love is how it sits in this neighborhood that’s having a moment without being overrun yet. You’re a fifteen-minute walk to the tram that’ll get you to the wine museum or across to the Right Bank, but honestly, some of the best wine bars are right here in Capucins. The owners will point you toward places like Le Bistrot du Gabriel (just don’t go on a Tuesday – they’re closed). Parking can be a bit of a puzzle, but there’s street parking if you’re patient, and they’ll help you figure it out. I stayed here in October when the weather was still warm enough to keep the windows open at night, and you get these lovely sounds of the neighborhood winding down – nothing jarring, just that gentle hum of a city going to sleep. It’s the kind of place where you actually want to hang around in the morning instead of rushing off to sightsee, which is probably the best compliment I can give any place to stay.

Very comfortable room, clean and quiet. Georges was very helpful. Other reviews mentioned the location. Although not in a lively part of town, I felt very safe. 15 minute walk to train station.

Georges is a wonderful and helpful host and assisted us with luggage, taxi, sight seeing, and restaurants. His home is beautiful, quiet, clean, and relaxing. Although it was only for one night in transit to Paris, I wish we could have stayed longer. Everything is of the highest quality and Georges was a very professional, knowledgeable, and super friendly host.
