You know what struck me first about La Canopée? It’s tucked away on Cours du Médoc in a way that feels intentional – not hidden exactly, but definitely not screaming for attention like some places do. I mean, the Chartrons district is already pretty low-key compared to the tourist crush around Place de la Bourse, but this spot feels even more like you’ve stumbled onto something the locals might actually use. The building itself has that understated French thing going on, where you’re not sure if it’s been there forever or if someone just has really good taste (turns out it’s a bit of both).

Here’s the thing about staying in Chartrons – and honestly, I wish more people knew this – you’re basically in Bordeaux’s old merchant quarter, which means you get all these wine shops and antique places that aren’t putting on a show for tourists. La Canopée sits right in the middle of this, so you can walk out in the morning and grab coffee at one of those tiny places where the owner might chat with you in broken English, or just nod knowingly if your French is terrible like mine was. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re thoughtfully done. Not flashy, but someone clearly sweated the details. The beds are actually comfortable – I’m talking sleep-through-construction-noise comfortable – and there’s this attention to lighting that you don’t always get at three-star places. They’ve managed to make spaces feel bigger than they probably are, which is no small feat in a city where square footage costs a fortune.

What really sold me though was how the staff handled things. Check-in was smooth without being robotic, and when I asked about getting to Saint-Émilion for a day trip, the woman at the desk didn’t just hand me a brochure – she actually drew a little map and mentioned which train car to sit in for the best views. That 9.6 rating starts making sense when you realize it’s these small moments that add up. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet at night (bonus if you’re a light sleeper), but you’re still close enough to walk to the riverside or catch a tram into the city center without planning your whole evening around transportation. Parking can be a bit of a dance – this is still central Bordeaux, after all – but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, you probably won’t need your car much once you’re settled in. I’d stay here again, which is saying something because I usually like to try new places. Sometimes you find a spot that just works.

  Unsere Gastgeberin und unser Aufenthalt war ganz wunderbar! Unser Zimmer mit Bad war sehr schön und geschmackvoll eingerichtet und frühstücken konnten wir oben auf der Terrasse, was großartig war.
  Die Lage ist sehr gut! Zu Fuß oder mit der Bahn oder Bus ist alles schnell zu erreichen. Merci beaucoup!!!

  Eines der schönster Apartments das ich je gebucht hatte. Sehr persönlich, künstlerisch und geschmacklich eingerichtet. Ich fühlte mich sehr wohl. Der Kontakt mit der Vermieterin war wunderbar. Das Frühstück ausgezeichnet. Bei gutem Wetter konnte man auf der Dachterrasse frühstücken und hatte einen wunderbaren Blick über die Dächer dieser Gegend von Bordeaux.
