Chez Guillaume Overview

First Impressions

Walking up to Chez Guillaume on rue du Maréchal Joffre, you immediately sense you’ve found something special in Bordeaux’s city center. This four-star boutique hotel occupies a beautifully restored building that feels authentically French without being stuffy about it. The entrance is understated in that effortlessly elegant way the French do so well — you know what I mean, where everything looks perfectly put together but not overdone. There’s an intimate scale here that makes you feel like you’re staying at a sophisticated friend’s place rather than just another hotel.

Location & Neighborhood

Honestly, the location is pretty much perfect if you want to experience real Bordeaux. You’re literally steps from Place Gambetta and the Grand Théâtre, but more importantly, you’re surrounded by the kind of wine bars and bistros where locals actually go. I mean, you can walk to the Garonne riverfront in about five minutes, and the tram stops right nearby if you want to explore further out. The street itself has that lovely Bordeaux limestone architecture, and there’s something really satisfying about being able to duck into authentic wine shops and cafés without having to navigate through tourist crowds.

The Rooms

The rooms at Chez Guillaume strike that sweet spot between refined comfort and genuine character. Each one feels individually designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate — some have those gorgeous high ceilings you’d expect in a historic Bordeaux building, others feature exposed stone walls that remind you you’re in wine country. The bathrooms are modern and well-appointed (good water pressure, which always matters), but they’ve kept period details where it makes sense. What I really appreciated was the attention to sound insulation — despite being in the heart of the city, nights are surprisingly peaceful.

Dining & Atmosphere

The breakfast here actually feels French rather than international-hotel-generic, which is refreshing. You’ll find proper croissants, local cheeses, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it came from a machine in a conference room. The common areas have this relaxed sophistication that encourages you to linger — there’s a small lounge area where guests naturally end up chatting about wine recommendations or comparing notes about their Bordeaux discoveries. The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood and will steer you toward places you might not find on your own.

Why Guests Love It

What makes this place work is how it balances being upscale with feeling approachable and authentic. Couples especially seem to love it here — there’s something romantic about the combination of the intimate scale, the beautiful neighborhood, and being able to walk to some of Bordeaux’s best wine bars for an evening out. You’re not paying for flashy amenities you don’t need; instead, you’re getting thoughtful service, genuine local character, and a location that puts you right in the middle of what makes Bordeaux special. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the city rather than just visiting it.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Bordeaux through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage.

    Helpful Host

What could be improved: I thought there will be a holidu concierge but the host was very helpful

  • Buen apartamento para pasar unos días en la ciudad – Karlos from Spain – 20 April 2025 (8/10)

Muy bien ubicado. Habitacion espaciosa. Cocina bien equipada. Persianas eléctricas

What could be improved: El baño es algo pequeño pese a no tener wc, que está situado en otro aseo también pequeño.

  • Very good – Ledicia from Spain – 3 January 2025 (8/10)

Nos encantó la ubicación y que nos ofreciera cuna para nuestro bebé, también que tenga cocina al ir con un bebé genial.

  • Bad – Filippo from Italy – 28 November 2024 (1/10)

  • Fantastische locatie en ruime kamer! Zeer goede prijs kwaliteit voor t centrum van Bordeaux!! Aanrader! – Ine from Netherlands – 11 October 2024 (9/10)
