Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this little duplex on Rue du Soleil? The street name literally means “Sun Street” – and honestly, that’s pretty much what you get. I mean, you’re dropped right into the beating heart of Bordeaux’s historic center, where the morning light hits those gorgeous 18th-century limestone buildings just right. The T1bis is tucked into one of these classic Bordelais structures, and while it’s not going to blow you away with luxury (it’s a solid 3-star spot), there’s something genuinely charming about staying somewhere this authentically local.
The duplex setup actually works really well – you’ve got your living space downstairs and the bedroom tucked up above, which gives it more of an apartment feel than your typical hotel box. What I loved was how you can hear the city waking up around you… the early morning delivery trucks rumbling over cobblestones, cafe owners hosing down their terraces, that distinctly French sound of metal shutters clanging open. Some people might find it noisy, but I thought it was part of the charm. You’re literally living like a Bordelais for a few days. The furnishing is pretty straightforward – think IKEA meets French practicality – but everything worked and felt clean.
Here’s the thing about the location though (and this is what makes it worth booking): you can walk to Place de la Bourse in maybe eight minutes, hit the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins in five, and you’re surrounded by wine bars that locals actually frequent. I stumbled into this tiny cave à vin called Le Vin dans les Voiles just around the corner – the kind of place you’d never find unless you were staying in the neighborhood. The tram stop at Porte de Bourgogne isn’t far if you want to venture out to the newer districts, but honestly, you probably won’t need to leave this little pocket of the city. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare around here (welcome to European city centers), but there’s a public garage about a ten-minute walk away. The 7.6 rating feels about right – it’s not perfect, and you might deal with some quirks of an older building, but for the price point and that location? You’re getting genuine Bordeaux character without the tourist markup you’d pay closer to the Grand Théâtre.
