Hotel Description

Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Bordeaux, and Hotel Indigo in Chartrons honestly surprised me in the best way. The location alone – you’re right on Parvis des Chartrons, which means you can literally roll out of bed and be at some of the city’s best wine bars within minutes. I mean, the Chartrons district used to be where all the wine merchants hung out back in the day, so there’s this cool historical vibe mixed with modern energy. The building itself has this industrial-chic thing going on that actually works – exposed brick, lots of natural light, and these quirky local art pieces that don’t feel forced like they do at some boutique places.

What really got me was how they’ve nailed the details without being pretentious about it. The rooms have this warm, lived-in feel with local photography on the walls (actual Bordeaux scenes, not generic stock photos), and the beds are seriously comfortable – I’m talking sink-into-them-after-a-long-day-of-walking comfortable. The bathroom products smell amazing, sort of like fig and something earthy I couldn’t quite place. You know what I appreciated? The soundproofing is actually decent, which matters because Chartrons can get lively at night, especially on weekends when people are bar-hopping along the quays. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – when I asked about dinner recommendations, the front desk guy steered me toward this tiny bistro on Rue Notre-Dame that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s the thing about staying in Chartrons versus the more touristy areas – you’re close enough to walk to Place de la Bourse (maybe 15 minutes along the river), but you’re also in this authentic neighborhood where locals actually live and work. There’s a morning market right nearby where you can grab proper coffee and pastries, and honestly, watching the city wake up from this part of town feels more real than being stuck near all the cruise ship crowds. The tram stop is practically outside your door, so getting around is dead simple. The only minor downside? Parking can be a bit of a hunt if you’re driving, but that’s true for most of central Bordeaux. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but it gets the important stuff right and has personality to spare. If you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that actually belongs in Bordeaux rather than just dropped there, this is your spot.

Reviews

  • Lovely modern property in a city bubbling with history – Dan from United States – 21 July 2025 (9/10)

Super friendly front desk staff, excellent location (very close to Tram B stop, walking distance to Chartrons, Notre Dame, downtown and old town) Rooftop restaurant/bar was beautiful as well.

What could be improved: Bordeaux was HOT during our visit and the lone AC vent was puzzlingly located in the entrance room and NOT the bedroom. So the room was very inefficiently ventilated.

  • Great hotel in an ideal location – Steven from United Kingdom – 18 July 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: A little bit expensive

  • Almost perfect – Sharon from United Kingdom – 15 July 2025 (9/10)

Lovely hotel in a great location.
Pretty bedrooms and dining areas and reception. Great beds and bedding.
    Lovely breakfast plenty of choice.
    Friendly helpful staff.

What could be improved: The toilet in the bedroom and in the reception area was stained brown which didn't make it feel clean.

  • Very good – Naomi from Ireland – 13 July 2025 (8/10)

Breakfast in rooftop restaurant was great

  • Very good – Alyssa from United Kingdom – 13 July 2025 (8/10)

    Excellent location
Really friendly staff, super helpful and kind.

What could be improved: We upgraded to a panoramic room to celebrate our honeymoon, we weren't informed that sadly the panoramic view is of the offices opposite, so the curtains stayed closed the whole weekend as you can see into the rooms clearly, even at ground level.

  • GREAT HOTEL IN A GOOD NEIGHBOUR HOOD NEXT TO THE RIVER – Debra from Australia – 7 July 2025 (9/10)

    STAFF REALLY HELPFUL
    ENJOYED OUR STAY
THE ROOF TOP BAR /RESTAURANT IS WONDERFUL BUT WE DID ONLY HAVE ONE DRINK AS SO MANY THING TO DO !!

  • Really charming hotel in a great location – Anni from Australia – 3 July 2025 (9/10)

We absolutely loved our stay here, it’s a gorgeous hotel and the staff were so nice. Location is awesome, walking distance to the old town but slightly out of the way so it wasn’t too hectic. The room was beautifully styled and was very clean and in good condition.

What could be improved: We found the pillows really awful which meant we slept poorly – alternative pillows on offer would make this hotel a 10/10

  • Comfortable but tired – Caroline from United Kingdom – 2 July 2025 (7/10)

Location between old town and Cite du vin Comfortable bed and good shower
    Rooftop terrace
    Air con

What could be improved: Decor very

    dated.
    Full of business trippers.
Our experience biased by intense heat..40C in June
    Expensive (but convenient) underground parking

  • Great great people great service – Kathleen from United States – 29 June 2025 (9/10)

Staff was super helpful made good recommendations

What could be improved: Hallway lighting was too dim
