Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Gite le Capucin? The name itself – it’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Bordeaux that feels completely removed from the tourist chaos, but you’re actually just a short walk from everything that matters. I mean, Rue de Begles isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find a gem like this, which is probably why it feels so authentically French rather than like some sanitized hotel experience.

The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering – and honestly, if you’ve ever tried to navigate Bordeaux’s old streets with a rental car, you’ll understand why that’s not just a nice-to-have but absolutely essential. Most places in this part of the city either don’t have parking at all or charge you an arm and a leg for it. Here, it’s just… included. Simple as that. The whole setup has this relaxed, almost residential feel that I wasn’t expecting from a 4-star place. It’s more like staying at a very well-appointed friend’s apartment than a traditional hotel, which explains that impressive 9 rating – guests clearly appreciate the authentic vibe over flashy amenities.

What really won me over was how the location works in practice. You’re in this peaceful neighborhood pocket where locals actually live (I saw kids walking to school in the morning, people walking their dogs), but the tram stops are close enough that getting into central Bordeaux or out to the wine regions doesn’t require any planning. The evening routine here is pretty perfect, actually – you can spend your day exploring the city center or doing tastings in Saint-Émilion, then come back to this quiet street where you can actually hear yourself think. There’s something to be said for being able to open your windows at night without the constant hum of traffic or late-night revelers that you get closer to Place de la Bourse. The whole Bègles area has been quietly gentrifying over the past few years, so you get these little bistros and cafés that feel discovered rather than touristy – the kind of places where the server might actually chat with you about wine recommendations instead of just taking your order. It’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing real Bordeaux life while still having all the comfort and service level you want after a long day of sightseeing.

Well equipped with all that we needed. The sofa bed worked well for us as did the little patio. Lots of good helpful advice from our host and what a wonderful city!

  • Rebecca from Singapore (8/10)

Pretty handy location although the parking is a short walk away and the area can be a little rougher as its closer to the main train station. Great market nearby though. Well appointed apartment with nice little touches and handy information provided too. Cute courtyard out the back.

  • Gregory from Australia (9/10)

Centrally located large clean ground level apartment with deck. Good wifi. Nice bed. Included parking is a bonus. Nicely decorated. Shutters to minimize street noise in living area, bedroom and deck are quiet. Very close to market. Best of all was Cyril's welcome and responsiveness!

Very friendly and nice owner with perfect care (e.g. cold drinks in the fridge). We really liked the small terrace, very cosy and nice flat. We loved to stay there; near to the centre of beautiful Bordeaux.

  • Florin from Romania (9/10)

A comfortable, spacious, clean location, with many facilities, very cozy. Cyril, a very nice person, helped us with advice, but also with all kinds of cold drinks in the fridge! Very useful private terrace, but also the nearby parking lot!
