Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the City Break Picquecailloux on Rue Godard, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s tucked into this residential stretch in Cauderan, which is actually perfect because you’re away from the tourist chaos but still totally connected to everything that matters in Bordeaux. The building itself has that understated French charm where they don’t need to shout about being fancy – you just know it’s well-run the moment you step inside.
What really got me was how the staff actually seemed to care about Bordeaux, you know? Not in that rehearsed concierge way, but like they genuinely live here and want you to experience their city properly. The front desk guy (I think his name was Antoine) spent ten minutes sketching out a walking route to the tram stops and marking which boulangeries were worth the detour – turns out there’s this incredible one just three blocks over that barely any tourists find. The rooms hit that sweet spot of being modern enough that everything works perfectly, but with enough character that you remember where you’re staying. Mine overlooked a quiet courtyard, and honestly, after walking around the city all day, that silence was golden. The beds are seriously comfortable too – I mean, I’m usually tossing and turning in hotel beds, but I slept like a rock here.
Here’s the thing about the location that took me a day to fully appreciate – Cauderan feels like actual Bordeaux life. You’ve got families doing their evening shopping, locals grabbing drinks at the corner café, kids playing in the small parks. It’s a fifteen-minute tram ride to the historic center (and the tram stop is literally a five-minute walk), but when you come back in the evening, you’re in this peaceful residential bubble. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven in French cities will tell you is basically a miracle. The hotel has a small lot, but there’s also decent street parking if you need it. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, so I can’t speak to summer crowds, but the whole neighborhood had this relaxed, lived-in feeling that made me want to stay longer. The 8.6 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in Bordeaux, but everything they do, they do really well. You’ll spend your days exploring the wine bars and riverfront, then come back to a place that feels like a genuine home base rather than just somewhere to crash.

Large two bedroom apartment with everything you need! – Thomas from Austria – 23 April 2025 (9/10)
Large apartment about 20 mins by car or public transport from the city center – great when you have been traveling with friends, staying in hotels, and want to have some “home” time together, buying excellent food and wine in the local markets and shops to enjoy around the dinner table!
There’s dedicated off-street parking and the place is very well looked after: very clean with everything you could wish for and access instructions are detailed and spot-on.My experience of my accomodation – Miriam from Ireland – 21 February 2025 (8/10)
Very spacious comfortable and quiet.
What could be improved: I was unable to use the oven, hob, microwave and washing machine due to the lack of an instruction booklet for each item.. I recommend full instructions left at the apartment for these items..Communication – Styles from Ireland – 11 September 2024 (8/10)
It was in a quiet residential area. The park was beautiful and the neighbours were very helpful and friendly..
What could be improved: Communication could have been better. The information booklet on the table could have given details about nearby restaurants, tourist attractions, buses into the city centre, supermarkets etc. I queried if we could get into the apartment a little earlier and was sent a standard reply 4 times. The apartment was managed by a company, and. It felt really impersonal and not very welcoming.Very good – Marta from Spain – 7 July 2025 (8/10)
Alloggio pulito. Materassi comodi. Cucina ben attrezzata. Posto auto privato. Suggerirei di fornire qualche asciugamano in aggiunta
Superb – Cris from Spain – 2 January 2025 (9/10)
– Catherine from France – 29 October 2024 (8/10)
Les indications pour récupérer les clefs sont très claires. L'accessibilité du boitier n'est pas aisée.
What could be improved: Un placard dans une des chambres serait appréciable ou au moins une chaise pour poser ses affaires.Superb – Liliya from Spain – 28 June 2024 (9/10)
Место расположения и территория вокруг дома
