Hotel Description
You know what caught me off guard about Aliénor? It’s tucked away on Rue de la Benauge in the Bastide district – which honestly, most tourists never even cross the river to explore – and yet it feels more authentically Bordeaux than half the places in the historic center. I mean, you’re literally on the right bank looking back at all those gorgeous 18th-century facades, but without the cruise ship crowds clogging up every café. The hotel itself sits in this quietly residential stretch where you’ll actually hear French conversations on the street, not just clicking cameras.
The building has that understated French elegance thing down perfectly – it’s not trying to be a palace or anything, just clean lines and thoughtful touches that make you feel like you stumbled onto something locals would actually recommend. What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to score a 9.4 rating without being flashy about it. The rooms are genuinely comfortable (and I’m picky about mattresses), with windows that actually open – revolutionary concept, right? – so you can hear the Garonne in the distance on quiet evenings. The staff knows their stuff too; they’ll tell you which tram stop gets you to the wine museum fastest, or point you toward that little bistro two blocks down that doesn’t even have a sign but serves the best canelés in the neighborhood.
Here’s the thing about staying in Bastide – you’re maybe ten minutes by tram from Place de la Bourse, but you’re also walking distance from some spots that feel completely off the tourist radar. There’s this morning market nearby where vendors will actually chat with you instead of just taking your euros and moving on. And honestly, the view situation is pretty spectacular; you get those postcard shots of Bordeaux’s skyline without fighting for space at the usual viewpoints. The area gets properly quiet after dinner too, which is perfect if you’ve spent the day wine tasting (let’s be real, that’s why you’re in Bordeaux) and just want to crash without street noise. Parking’s not a nightmare either, which – if you’ve tried to drive in central Bordeaux – you’ll appreciate more than you’d expect. It’s one of those places that just works, you know? Not flashy, not trying too hard, just solid and smart and run by people who seem to actually care about whether you sleep well and find good coffee in the morning.

Convenient location, though I was glad to be told to turn right over the bridge not left or forward as a solo female traveller. The accomodation was so comfortable and perfect for my needs. The host is very concerned for your comfort.

Apartment is in a very quiet neighborhood but very close to the tram station and lovely walk across the bridge especially in the evening. It is easy to arrive from the train station on the trams. There’s 1 change but all trams are at the same station. Bed is big and very comfortable. Host is nice and caring.
