You know what struck me first about Sweet Melody? The name actually makes sense once you’re inside – there’s this lovely acoustic quality to the duplex that comes from the old Bordeaux architecture. It’s tucked away on rue Buhan, which honestly I’d never heard of before booking, but turns out it’s this quiet residential street that’s maybe a seven-minute walk from Place Saint-Pierre. The quartier itself has that lived-in feel where you’ll see locals heading to the boulangerie in the morning rather than clusters of tourists with selfie sticks.

The duplex setup works really well if you’re traveling with someone – I mean, having that separation between levels gives you actual space to spread out, which you don’t always get in European city accommodations. The décor leans into that contemporary-meets-traditional thing without being too precious about it, and honestly, the beds are more comfortable than I expected for a 3-star place. What I really appreciated were the little thoughtful touches – good water pressure (crucial after walking Bordeaux’s cobblestones all day), decent WiFi that actually reached both floors, and windows that properly block out street noise. Speaking of which, rue Buhan stays pretty quiet even on weekend nights, though you might catch some distant revelry from the busier streets closer to the cathedral.

Location-wise, it’s one of those spots where you feel like you’re staying in an actual neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble. There’s a small épicerie maybe two blocks down that stays open later than the big chains, and if you head toward rue des Bahutiers, you’ll hit some genuinely good wine bars that locals frequent – the kind where the owner might chat with you about regional vintages if it’s not too busy. The 7.6 rating seems about right; it’s not going to wow you with luxury touches, but it delivers on the fundamentals really well. I’d definitely stay here again, especially since parking in this part of Bordeaux can be a nightmare, but there are actually some decent street spots nearby if you’re patient about circling the block a few times.

  Host / agent responded promptly to our texts to coordinate arrival time for key handoff… which was necessary, as entering this apartment building is a little tricky. She was kind and helpful, especially as there were 75 stairs inside leading up to the front door. The location is excellent, just far enough off the busy lively street, but high enough up so that it's not so noisy. Close to the water, trains and transportation. Everything within walking distance or transportation. A unique spacious abode, with comfy bed upstairs and spacious living area downstairs allowing my partner and me private areas when desired. Loved the bathtub and add'l bathroom downstairs.

  Host came to meet us with the keys and take us through everything we needed to know about the property. The host also gave us a lot of fantastic recommendations of places to visit, eat and drink. She was incredibly helpful and easy to contact throughout. We really enjoyed our stay and will be recommending to as many friends and family as possible.
