You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to 38 Rue Huguerie, I was expecting another cramped studio situation, but this little gem actually delivers on that “superbe” promise in its name. The street itself is one of those narrow Bordeaux lanes that feels properly French without being touristy – you’re literally steps from Place du Parlement (which honestly has some of the prettiest 18th-century architecture in the city) but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with constant foot traffic outside your windows.

The studio itself is refreshingly honest about what it is. It’s compact, sure, but whoever set this up actually thought about how people live, not just how many beds they could cram in. The air conditioning works – and I mean really works, which matters more than you’d think during those sticky Bordeaux summers when the stone buildings hold heat like ovens. But here’s the real selling point: that terrace. It’s not huge, but it faces the right direction to catch evening light, and there’s something pretty magical about having your morning coffee out there while the city wakes up below. You can actually hear the vendors setting up at Marché des Capucins a few blocks away if you’re up early enough.

The location is what really makes this work, though. You’re in the heart of the old town – I mean, you can walk to the Miroir d’Eau in maybe eight minutes, and the wine bars along Rue des Piliers de Tutelle are practically around the corner. What I really appreciated is how easy it is to grab groceries (there’s a decent Monoprix on Cours de l’Intendance) without feeling like you’re fighting tourist crowds every time you step outside. The nearby streets have that lived-in feel where you’ll see the same café owner every morning and actually start to feel like you belong somewhere. Parking is… well, it’s Bordeaux city center, so forget about street parking, but there’s a decent underground garage at Place des Grands Hommes if you’re driving. Honestly though, once you’re here, you won’t need a car – the tram stops are close enough, and everything worth seeing is walkable. The place has that solid 3-star feel without trying to be something it’s not, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re spending most of your time exploring the city anyway.

  We arranged an early check-in and we were met just a bit after that time so that we could get in. All went smoothly but we did not know how we were going to get in until just before arrival!
  
  What could be improved: The elevator to this ROOF top apartment was not working when we arrived, it was fixed and worked for one morning then broke for the remainder of the visit. Not the host's fault but be aware to travel light if you are coming here.

  The location was perfect. Nice and luminous good size studio. Spot clean.
  
  What could be improved: The check-in was a bit stressful as we had no answer to our request for instructions until late the night before. And then we waited at the door until the concierge arrived. Thankfully it wasn't raining otherwise we would have been drenched. The concierge was pleasant and welcoming but she should at least acknowledge the WhatsApp messages to reassure the arriving guests.
  
  Also the shower is clogged. We averted spillovers by limiting our shower time.
  The kitchen faucet is poor, impossible to run smoothly. It splashes with brutal flow.

  What could be improved: The water in the shower didn’t drain away and overflowed. We sent a message to see if it could be fixed but eventually we had to buy a plunger. The bed was also quite hard and washing machine tore a whole in a pair of trousers.

  Great location! Quiet street close to nearby attractions. Apartment is beautifully decorated and has good amenities. Host was helpful and responsive.

  The apartment had a lovely balcony. We needed early check-in and late checheck out abd that was no problem the host were very accommodating, the apartment was very clean, loved our stay.

  The kitchen was well equiped and the location was good.
  
  What could be improved: It was not easy as we had to pay a deposit via a link which was very difficult to use. The link needed a confirmation code that goes back to our home country phone. When we finally got the code and went back to fill in the payment form, one had to start all over again. We did this for an hour. In the end after several attempts we met the concierge at the property and paid a deposit of $408 AUD by credit card. After a month and several emails to Bordeaux locations, we are still unable to get our deposit refunded. This has been escalated to Booking.com

  Also the hosts after we checkout took 50 euro the agravation to deal with the out of our security deposit, saying it was a coffee stain and we broke a plate and a glass which we didn't. Try to contact them, never answer back.
  Avoid this apartment if you can.
