Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about this place? Walking up rue abbé de l’épée, you’d almost miss it – it’s tucked into this gorgeous old Bordeaux building that looks like it’s been watching the neighborhood evolve for decades. The Gambetta area honestly doesn’t get enough credit; everyone rushes to Saint-Pierre or the water, but this quartier has this lived-in energy that feels authentically Bordelais.

The apartment itself is spacious in that satisfying European way – I mean, two proper bedrooms where you can actually fit your luggage and move around. The owner clearly lives in Bordeaux (or at least knows it well) because there are all these thoughtful touches you don’t usually find in vacation rentals. Good coffee in the kitchen, decent shower pressure, and – this matters more than you’d think – proper blackout curtains. The morning light here is beautiful, but when you want to sleep in after exploring the wine bars on cours de l’Intendance until 2 AM, you’ll appreciate being able to block it out. Everything feels clean and well-maintained, though the building itself has that charming old-world character where you’ll hear your neighbors occasionally. Not disruptively, just… you know you’re in a real neighborhood, not some sterile hotel bubble.

What I really loved was how walkable everything is from here. Place Gambetta is literally a three-minute stroll – perfect for morning coffee at one of those cafés where locals actually go, not just tourists. The tram’s right there too, which honestly makes getting around Bordeaux ridiculously easy. But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: this location puts you close enough to the action without being in the thick of the weekend crowds that descend on the more obvious areas. You can walk to the Grand Théâtre in about fifteen minutes, hit the Saturday market at Marché des Capucins without much fuss, and when you want dinner, rue Saint-Rémi has some fantastic little bistros that locals frequent. The whole setup just works – it’s that sweet spot where you feel like you’re experiencing Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. For a three-star spot with an 8.5 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises without trying to be something it’s not.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Bordeaux at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals.

The location is perfect for access to restaurants, the river and all the main sites. The very local shops were great too. Sandrine was there to meet us and gave us great help and advice.

  • Jacqueline from United Kingdom (9/10)

Location on the edge of the old town and near to supermarkets and restaurants was great. The apartment was beautifully appointed and just about coped with the hot weather which was exceptional. We would stay here again – in cooler weather. However, don't stay here if you can't cope with 3 flights of stairs.

  • Andrew from United Kingdom (9/10)

Excellent location, quiet thanks to the double glazed windows, beautiful decor and furnishings – tasteful combination of modern and “antique”.
