Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to this place on Rue Elisée Reclus, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s tucked between some pretty ordinary-looking buildings in what feels like a residential pocket of the city center. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t scream at you from the street.
The apartment itself is actually quite charming once you’re inside. It’s got that lived-in Bordeaux character – high ceilings, original wooden floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in an old building (but not enough to drive you crazy), and these tall windows that let in gorgeous light during the afternoon. The owner clearly put thought into the space without going overboard – there’s a proper kitchen where you can actually cook if you want to hit up the morning market at Marché des Capucins, which is maybe a ten-minute walk away. I spent a couple evenings there making simple dinners with stuff I’d grabbed from the vendors, and it felt more authentic than eating out every night, you know?
Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you’re close enough to everything but not drowning in tourist crowds. The Hôtel de Ville is literally around the corner – hence the name – and from there you can easily walk to Place de la Bourse or wander down toward the river. What I really appreciated was being near Cours de l’Intendance for shopping and cafés, but also having these quieter residential streets where you can actually hear yourself think. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’ve got a car (street parking fills up fast, and there’s a paid lot about three blocks away), but honestly, once you’re settled in, you won’t need it much. The tram stops at Hôtel de Ville are right there, so getting to the wine regions or other parts of the city is pretty straightforward.
The place isn’t fancy – it’s a solid 3-star situation, which means you get what you need without any frills that would jack up the price. The shower has good pressure, the bed is comfortable enough, and there’s decent WiFi throughout. I will say the building can be a little noisy in the evenings when people are coming home from work – you’ll hear footsteps and doors closing – but it settles down by around 10 PM. Check-in was smooth, though you do need to coordinate timing since there’s no front desk situation. The host was responsive and actually gave me some solid recommendations for wine bars that weren’t just the obvious tourist spots.
What really sold me on this place was how it made me feel like I was staying in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. You’re shopping at the same bakeries as the locals, walking the same streets to get your morning coffee, and you start to recognize the rhythm of the neighborhood. For the price point and the genuine local experience, it’s honestly a pretty good deal – especially if you’re the type who values character over luxury amenities.

The location is fantastic and close to many restaurants and easy transportation. The parking is just 6 min walk from the property what is a plus considering it’s very difficult (and expensive) to park along the city. The checkin system was pretty easy.

We were a bit anxious about our stay as we'd read a bad review — but we absolutely loved it! If you're wanting to stay in a beautiful, classic apartment that makes you feel like a genuine local, this is the place for you! We were happy to miss out on what might be considered more 'modern' conveniences – like a lift, or a more convenient bathroom/shower/toilet lay-out (you'll see when you get there!) for the wonderful ambience of a tastefully decorated, old-world-feel, authentic apartment. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was clean, everything worked as it should. The location was the cherry on top – close to everything.
