Hotel Description
Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a place with such a mouthful of a name, but this little duplex studio on Rue Edmond Costedoat turned out to be exactly what Bordeaux needed more of. You know that feeling when you walk into a space and immediately think “okay, someone actually thought this through”? That’s what happened here.
The location is what locals call “quietly central” – you’re tucked into this residential pocket where actual Bordelais live, but you can still walk to Place Gambetta in about eight minutes (I timed it). Rue Edmond Costedoat itself is one of those tree-lined streets where the biggest noise you’ll hear is someone wheeling their garbage bin out on Thursday mornings. The parking situation alone makes this place worth considering – and I mean that seriously, because anyone who’s driven around Bordeaux’s old quarters knows what a nightmare that usually is. They’ve got a dedicated spot, which in this neighborhood is basically like having your own private gold mine.
What really got me was the duplex setup. The downstairs feels surprisingly spacious for a studio, and they’ve managed to fit in a proper kitchen area without it feeling cramped against the living space. The stairs up to the sleeping loft are steep – well, French-apartment steep, so if you’re traveling with someone who has mobility issues, just keep that in mind. But honestly, there’s something kind of charming about climbing up to this cozy sleeping nook. The air conditioning works properly too, which isn’t something you can take for granted in older Bordeaux buildings, especially during those sticky July weeks when the whole city feels like it’s melting.
The terrace is where this place really shines though. It’s not huge, but it’s private and gets this lovely afternoon light that makes you want to grab a bottle of something local and just… stay put. I actually ended up eating most of my meals out there because the covered market on Cours de l’Intendance is just a quick walk away, and bringing back fresh stuff to enjoy on your own little outdoor space beats restaurant hunting every night. The neighbors are quiet – mostly young professionals and older couples who’ve been in the building forever, so you get that authentic residential vibe without feeling like you’re intruding.
The whole place has this lived-in quality that feels genuine rather than sterile. Small touches like decent lighting (not those harsh overhead bulbs that make everyone look terrible) and a bathroom that’s actually big enough to move around in. The check-in was smooth, and the host clearly knows the neighborhood well – they left notes about which bakery opens earliest and where to find the best wine shop, stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to live like a local for a few days.
Is it perfect? Well, the WiFi can be a bit sluggish if you’re trying to upload photos, and the kitchen could use one more good knife. But honestly, for the price point and location, especially with that parking and terrace situation, it’s a solid choice if you want to experience Bordeaux from a neighborhood perspective rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble around the cathedral.

Perfect accommodation in Bordeaux. – Maciej from Poland – 8 June 2024 (10/10)
The apartment is in a very good location within 10 minutes walk to rue sainte Catherine and about 25 minutes walk to the train station. The property is very well equipped: fridge, microwave, small oven, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine, tv and super fast internet. The bed is very comfortable, aircon efficient and the bathroom has a rainfall shower and an electric radiator should you wish to dry your towels quickly. You have access to a small terrace which is a bonus. Cleanliness of the apartment was top notch.
On our arrival a bottle of red wine was awaiting us which was a very nice touch.
