You know what struck me first about this little studio on Rue Huguerie? The fact that it’s actually *new* – and I mean properly new, not that fake-renovated vibe you get at half the places in Bordeaux’s old center. Walking up to number 63, you’re right in the thick of things but on one of those side streets that doesn’t get the late-night bar crowds from Place Gambetta, which honestly makes all the difference for sleep.

The studio itself is compact but thoughtfully done – someone clearly put effort into making every square meter work. The kitchen area has decent counter space (rare for these city center conversions), and the bathroom actually fits a normal-sized person, which… well, if you’ve stayed in many European studios, you know that’s not always a given. What I really appreciated was the attention to soundproofing – you can hear the city humming outside, but it’s not intrusive. The morning light comes in nicely too, though you might want to crack the window early since these newer builds can get a bit stuffy.

Location-wise, you’re about a three-minute walk to Place Tourny – that’s the big circular plaza with the fountain and all the cafés. From there, it’s an easy stroll down to the Grand Théâtre or over to the Garonne waterfront. I actually found myself grabbing morning coffee at the little boulangerie just around the corner on Cours de l’Intendance rather than walking all the way to the touristy spots. The tram stop at Gambetta is close enough that you don’t need to think about it, but far enough that you’re not dealing with that constant rumble. Parking is typical city center nightmare stuff, but if you’re planning to explore on foot anyway (which you should), that won’t matter much. The 8.3 rating feels about right – it’s a solid, no-surprises kind of place that does exactly what it promises without trying to be fancy about it.
