Hotel Description

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from a 30-square-meter studio – I mean, that’s tiny by most standards – but this little place on Rue de Lurbe completely won me over. The location is honestly incredible if you know Bordeaux at all. When they say “triangle d’or,” they’re not kidding around. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Gambetta (where all the good restaurants are), and I actually found myself just wandering down to the Grand Théâtre most evenings because, well, why not? The tram stops right at Gambetta too, so getting anywhere in the city is dead simple. What really surprised me was how quiet it stays despite being so central – the street has this residential feel that buffers you from the tourist chaos on Cours de l’Intendance just a block over.

The studio itself is cleverly designed in that French way where every centimeter actually serves a purpose. Sure, 30 square meters sounds cramped, but they’ve maximized the space so well that I never felt claustrophobic. The kitchen area is compact but functional – I made coffee every morning and even managed a simple dinner one night with ingredients from the little market on Rue Porte Dijeaux. The bed was surprisingly comfortable (honestly, I’ve stayed in supposedly fancier places with worse mattresses), and there’s decent storage space if you’re not overpacking. The bathroom is small but clean, with good water pressure – something you can’t always count on in older Bordeaux buildings. One tiny critique: the Wi-Fi can be a bit spotty in the evening when everyone’s streaming, but it works fine for basic stuff.

What really sells this place for me is the neighborhood vibe. You’re staying where actual Bordelais live and work, not in some sterile hotel district. There’s a fantastic boulangerie literally around the corner where the owner started recognizing me after day two, and the wine bar on Rue Notre-Dame is the kind of place locals actually go – not just tourists following guidebooks. The 8.5 rating makes total sense because while it’s not luxury, it’s exactly what you want: clean, well-located, and authentic. I’d definitely book it again, especially if I was planning to explore the city on foot and wanted somewhere that felt more like a temporary home than a hotel room. Just don’t expect space for multiple suitcases – pack light and you’ll love it.

Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Bordeaux through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage.

Reviews

  • Quiet, cozy and clean – Marjorie from France – 2 August 2023 (8/10)

The owner was very responsive, the place was quiet although in the center. Very cozy and comfortable space.

  • Exceptional – Joe from United Kingdom – 24 July 2023 (10/10)

What could be improved: No air con or fan so we were really hot. However it’s an amazing price in a beautiful place so 10/10 experience overall.

  • Great location but no access to wifi – Cristina from Spain – 18 May 2023 (9/10)

I loved staying here, the only thing I had a hard time was accessing the wifi. I was never able to connect. If the owner could give this information on time it would be wonderful!

  • Exceptional – Dariya from Italy – 30 September 2024 (10/10)

    Really central and clean place

  • Good location but could be a little more luxurious. – Janet from United Kingdom – 20 June 2024 (7/10)

The host messaged me directly with instructions to get into the property. All crockery and pots and pans available

What could be improved: There was no shower curtain on the bath so couldn’t stand under the shower as normal. Main light rather dim. The furniture could be a little better quality.

  • Other than the issues raised it was a good location and quite well appointed studio. – Anne from Australia – 7 October 2023 (7/10)

    Location was good. Good size.

What could be improved: It was over 30 degrees celsius when we arrived and humid. The unit was advertised to have a fan. We rank the owner and he said he would supply one. We never heard from him. It was very hard to sleep. Overhead fans would have made all the difference.
We had two large bags and was very difficult to carry them up and down the very narrow, steep and curved staircase.
Quite noisy from the street below. We had to use ear plugs.

  • Very good – Anonymous from France – 1 September 2023 (8/10)

The location was super, perfect for a few nights stay close to the city centre and walking distance from many of the city’s highlights. Comfortable and clean, good value for money.

  • Very good – Emilie from France – 18 December 2024 (8/10)

O silêncio à noite, o conforto do colchão.

What could be improved: Poderia ter uma TV, mesmo que pequena e uma cortina na cabine do duche. 😊

  • Exceptional – Agnes from France – 11 July 2024 (10/10)

Studio très agréable, bien. Fonctionnel et très bien situé. Merci
