Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about this little studio on Rue Carpenteyre? It’s genuinely cozy in that way French places do so well – not the fake “cozy” you see in hotel marketing, but actually warm and lived-in feeling. The location is honestly perfect if you want to be right in the thick of historic Bordeaux without paying those crazy prices you’ll find closer to Place de la Bourse. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Saint-Michel basilica (hence the name), and that whole area has this authentic neighborhood vibe that most tourists miss entirely.
The studio itself is pretty much what you’d expect from a well-maintained 3-star place – clean, functional, with that particular French attention to making small spaces work harder than they should. The previous guests I talked to mentioned the bed was surprisingly comfortable, which honestly matters more than fancy amenities when you’re spending your days wandering around the city. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re in the center of things. Rue Carpenteyre isn’t one of those main drags where delivery trucks start rumbling at 6 AM – it’s more residential, so you actually get some sleep. The 7.8 rating feels about right; it’s not going to blow your mind, but there’s nothing to complain about either.
Here’s the thing that makes this spot actually useful – you’re positioned perfectly between the tourist center and the real Bordeaux. Walk ten minutes toward the river and you hit all the postcard stuff, but head the other direction and you’ll find yourself in neighborhoods where locals actually live and shop. The Saturday morning market at Saint-Michel is right there (and it’s way better than the touristy one at Place des Grands Hommes, trust me). Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, but honestly, that’s true anywhere in central Bordeaux, and you’re so well-connected by tram that you probably won’t need a car anyway. The whole Saint-Michel quarter has been getting spruced up over the past few years too, so there are some genuinely good little bistros and wine bars within walking distance that haven’t been completely discovered yet. It’s not luxury, but it’s exactly what you want when you’re more interested in experiencing the city than hanging out in your hotel room.
To book a hotel in Bordeaux during the wine harvest season, visitors should make reservations well in advance as the city attracts wine enthusiasts from around the world.

Reviews
Perfect, for a short stay. – Caroline from United Kingdom – 26 October 2024 (7/10)
A perfect little room for a short stay. Well appointed. Quiet. With a great view of St Michel.
What could be improved: No fire escape – a bit like sitting in an eagles eyrie – right up there – but with no wings … should the one-in-a-million fire break out…Fried me.Very nice apartment for a few day’s stay! Easy check in and check out, and very close to a tram stop and main train stat – Jacqueline from South Africa – 27 September 2024 (8/10)
It was clean, had cooking facilities, loved the view, and nice space
What could be improved: Not the owners fault because pf space limitations, but a washing machine would be nice in a self cateringGreat stay beautiful city will definitely be back – Philippa from United Kingdom – 9 July 2024 (9/10)
Great location lovely apartment compact and clean. Great shower!
What could be improved: Bit of a climb the stairs to the apartment but great view from roomWonderful, relaxing stay. – Krzysztof from Poland – 26 September 2023 (9/10)
Beautyful, cosy apartment with big bed. Perfect for several days stay. The apartment was very clean.
What could be improved: eventually narrow stairs on the corridor, but that was nothing seriousJust out of tourist Bordeaux, surrounded by great bars & restaurants – Carol from United Kingdom – 11 July 2025 (8/10)
Great location, spacious , all that we needed
What could be improved: For the money it was fab- couldn’t find a lid for the kettleSuperb – Vesna from Slovenia – 7 August 2022 (9/10)
Location, big enough apartment and bright due to large windows.
What could be improved: Poor portable air conditioner that cools only on the floor. The microwave didn't work. When you held the door in a certain position, it worked, but the food did not heat up. A very loud neighborhood where mens gathered every night to drink and be very loud on the street, so open windows were also a problem….Exceptional – Gabija from United Kingdom – 5 May 2023 (10/10)
The location was lovely, 10min walk from most of tourist attractions and you can see a church through the windows, the bed was comfy, apartment was clean, had toiletries, a proper hair dryer and a smart TV, so you could watch Netflix and Disney+
What could be improved: Los alrededores los notamos muy sucios. Gran acumulación de basura en todas las calles aledañas, pero quizá fue porque era el fin de semana y el mercadillo de Saint Michel atrae mucha gente y fue un fin de semana lluvioso.Very good – Marcello from Italy – 25 March 2025 (8/10)
Bellissimo monolocale ben tenuto e accogliente all’ ultimo piano. Unica pecca mancanza dell’ ascensore, ma in francia è normale. Posizione strategica, dalla finestra si intravede la basilica su saint michel!
Very good – Soraya from Spain – 26 December 2024 (8/10)
