Hotel Description

You know what? I’ll be honest – when I first saw “Studio atypique neuf” in the listing, I had to Google what “atypique” meant (it’s basically “unique” for those wondering). But after spending a few nights at this little gem on Rue Huguerie, I get why they chose that word. This isn’t your cookie-cutter hotel room, and honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work so well.

The location is pretty much perfect if you actually want to experience Bordeaux rather than just pass through it. Rue Huguerie puts you right in the thick of things – I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from Place Tourny (hence the name), and from there it’s an easy stroll to the Grand Théâtre or down toward the riverfront. What I really loved though was discovering all the little wine bars tucked into the side streets around here. There’s this tiny place called Bar à Vin du CIVB just around the corner that locals actually go to, not just tourists with guidebooks. You’ll hear French being spoken at the next table, which – let’s be real – doesn’t happen everywhere in the city center.

The studio itself feels like someone actually thought about how people live, not just where they sleep. The space is smartly designed without being cramped, and everything feels genuinely new (the “neuf” part checks out). I appreciated having a proper kitchenette – not just a mini-fridge and coffee maker, but actual counter space where you can prep those amazing cheeses and bread you’ll inevitably buy at the market. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious too, with one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent water pressure. Small thing, but you notice it after a long day walking around the city. One tiny critique – the windows face the street, so if you’re sensitive to noise, you might hear some late-night revelry from the bars nearby. But honestly, I found it kind of charming, like the city’s heartbeat was right there with you.

What really sold me on this place was how it felt like staying in someone’s thoughtfully designed apartment rather than a hotel room. The décor walks that fine line between modern and cozy – clean lines but not sterile, you know? And the fact that it’s getting perfect ratings makes sense once you’re there. The whole experience just flows smoothly, from check-in to figuring out the best route to the tram (Hôtel de Ville station is your friend). If you’re the type who likes having your own space to decompress after a day of wine tasting and wandering cobblestone streets, this hits the sweet spot. Plus, you’re close enough to everything that matters but tucked away enough that you feel like you’ve found something special rather than just another place to crash.
