Hotel Description

Look, I’ll be straight with you about Séjours & Affaires Bordeaux de L’Yser – it’s one of those places that grows on you once you figure out what it actually is. When I first pulled up to 183 Cours de L’Yser, I honestly thought I’d booked the wrong kind of place. It’s got this extended-stay apartment hotel vibe that might throw you off if you’re expecting a traditional hotel experience, but hear me out.

The location is actually pretty brilliant if you know Bordeaux at all. You’re in Nansouty Saint-Genes, which sounds fancy but is really just this quiet residential area that most tourists completely miss. And that’s the beauty of it – you’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the old town, but you get to live like a local instead of being stuck in the tourist bubble around Place de la Bourse. The Cours de L’Yser itself is this tree-lined avenue where you’ll see more families walking dogs than selfie sticks, you know? There’s something refreshing about that after a day of sightseeing.

What I really appreciated was the apartment setup – I mean, having a proper kitchenette changes everything when you’re staying more than a couple nights. You can actually buy some of those incredible cheeses from the local markets and not worry about eating them immediately (though honestly, you probably will anyway). The rooms are clean and functional rather than Instagram-worthy, but there’s decent space and the beds are surprisingly comfortable. The staff at check-in was efficient without being overly chatty, which I actually preferred after a long travel day. Parking was straightforward too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate a rental car through Bordeaux’s old town will appreciate.

Here’s the thing though – this isn’t where you come for fancy amenities or that boutique hotel experience. The 3-star rating is pretty accurate, and that 7.7 score makes sense when I think about it. It delivers on what it promises without any real surprises, good or bad. The neighborhood gets quiet at night, maybe too quiet if you’re looking for nightlife within walking distance, but the tram connections are solid if you want to head into the city center for dinner. I found myself actually enjoying the evening walks around the area – there are some great little bistros tucked away that you’d never find staying in the touristy parts of town. Plus, you’re close enough to Parc Bordelais if you need some green space, which I definitely did after too much wine tasting in Saint-Émilion.

Reviews

  • Very clean and quiet. Helpful staff who quickly responded to my questions. – Ken from Australia – 12 May 2025 (9/10)

The apartment was very clean, quiet and contained everything I needed.

  • Very good hotel for a short stay. – Whoomeur from United Kingdom – 18 January 2025 (9/10)

The room had everything, even a mini kitchenette which was well equipped.
There's a supermarket really close to the hotel to buy supplies.

What could be improved: There was not staff to do the check out and I had to leave the keys in the lobby.
The bathroom and shower especially were really tiny.

  • Clean, comfortable, convenient – Allison from United Kingdom – 23 September 2024 (8/10)

Clean and comfortable, basic but everything worked. Perfect for us as we just needed a base to explore the city. Tram stops are close by or you can walk to the centre in under 20 minutes.

  • Good service and comfy room. – Chircop from Malta – 21 July 2024 (7/10)

Friendly staff, provision of coffee and drinking water everyday. Comfy beds.

What could be improved: Towels weren't changed on the last day and freezer doesn't work well. We had ice cream and it melted so had to throw it all away. What a waste!

  • Good alternative maybe if you move around with public transportation. – Jolyne from Italy – 10 July 2024 (8/10)

The bed was ulta comfortable and the kitchenette convenient. Also very sound-proof

What could be improved: The area was a little too rough. Didn’t feel safe walking at night from the center which was much further than we had realized.

  • Good – Christopher from New Zealand – 5 June 2024 (7/10)

Excellent location. Very comfortable beds. Very helpful staff. Good storage in the room.

What could be improved: We did not read the check out times for a Saturday carefully enough. Check out was until 11:00 am but staff were only there from 8:30-10:30 am. We missed them by minutes. We hope they found our keys left in the room.
