Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? The parking situation – and I mean that in the best way possible. Finding a spot in Bordeaux can honestly make you question your life choices, but Sauvageau just… handles it for you. There’s something oddly luxurious about not circling blocks for twenty minutes when you’re trying to check in after a long drive.

The apartment itself sits on Rue Camille Sauvageau, which is one of those streets that feels properly Bordeaux without being touristy – you’ll hear more French than English walking around, which I actually love. It’s a solid one-bedroom setup that doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The space feels lived-in rather than sterile (though still clean, obviously), and honestly, after staying in so many cookie-cutter hotel rooms, there’s something refreshing about a place with actual personality. The kitchen is functional – I mean, you’re not going to be hosting dinner parties, but you can definitely handle breakfast and simple meals without wanting to throw things.

What really works here is the neighborhood vibe. You’re close enough to walk into the city center when you feel like it, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the Saturday night chaos under your windows. I noticed the local boulangerie on the corner gets busy around 7:30 AM – which became my unofficial alarm clock, and there are worse ways to wake up than the smell of fresh bread drifting up from the street. The tram connections are pretty straightforward too, though honestly, I found myself walking more than I expected because the route into town is actually quite pleasant, especially along the Garonne.

The 7.5 rating makes sense when you think about it – this isn’t going to blow your mind with fancy amenities or Instagram-worthy interiors, but it does exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. The WiFi works (always a relief), the shower has decent pressure, and the bed is comfortable enough that I didn’t spend the first night wondering if I should have splurged on something fancier. Sometimes that’s honestly all you need, especially when you’re using the place as a base rather than a destination. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward waiting around while they “prepare your room” even though you’re arriving at 4 PM.

If I’m being completely honest, this place works best for people who want to experience Bordeaux like they actually live there for a bit, rather than tourists who want to be pampered. You’ll grocery shop at the local Monoprix, figure out which café makes the better coffee, maybe chat with neighbors in the hallway. It’s that kind of stay – comfortable, unpretentious, and surprisingly satisfying in ways that the fancier places sometimes miss.

Early hotels booking in Bordeaux is essential during major events like the Wine Festival, as accommodations fill up quickly with visitors eager to experience the city’s renowned vineyards and gastronomy.

The welcome from Jacob was excellent. He showed us to the property, showed us how everything worked and gave us really useful advice about using public transport and the best sites and restaurants. The location was really good – close to the market. In addition to some restaurant meals, we had some simple meals with lots of beautiful produce from the market.
The sofa bed was the easiest we have had to open in our travels. The washing facilities were really useful.

Comfortable bed and lounge seating. The shower was great. Easy walk to Capuchin markets, restaurants and cafes. Close to the tram.
