Honestly, when I first walked up to Romance au coeur de Bordeaux on Rue Ducau, I wasn’t expecting much from the street view – but man, was I wrong. This little 4-star gem sits right in the heart of Chartrons, and you know what? The location is absolutely perfect if you want to feel like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the Jardin Public (hence the name), which locals actually use for their morning jogs and weekend picnics, not just tourists snapping photos.

The thing that really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that romantic vibe without going overboard with the cheese factor. I mean, yes, it’s called “Romance” and there are thoughtful touches everywhere, but it feels genuine rather than manufactured. The rooms have this warm, intimate atmosphere – sort of like staying in a beautifully renovated Bordeaux townhouse, which I suspect is exactly what it is. The staff actually knows the neighborhood; they’ll tell you which boulangerie opens earliest (it’s the one on Cours de Verdun, by the way) and where to grab groceries if you’re staying a few days. Check-in was smooth, though I’d recommend arriving after 3 PM since they seem to use that time to really perfect the room turnover.

What really sets this place apart is how it connects you to the real Bordeaux. You’re in Chartrons, which means you’re surrounded by wine bars and antique shops that locals frequent, not tourist traps. The Saturday morning market at Marché des Chartrons is practically on your doorstep – I could hear the vendors setting up around 7 AM, but honestly, it was charming rather than annoying. Plus, you can walk to the tram stop on Cours du Médoc in about five minutes, so getting to the historic center or down to the riverfront is incredibly easy. Parking can be a bit tricky around here (welcome to Bordeaux), but the hotel staff had solid recommendations for nearby options. The neighborhood gets lively in the evenings – there’s this energy from all the wine bars and bistros – but it settles down by around 11 PM, so you won’t be dealing with noise all night. That 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here; it’s one of those places that just gets the details right without trying too hard.

  Beautiful house, full of character and charm. Clean and tidy with excellent facilities. Lovely comfortable beds. Well equipped kitchen.
  Few minutes walk to the tram station which made it very easy to visit everything we wanted to see in Bordeaux- and straightforward getting to the airport at the end of our visit.
  Aude-Marie was very helpful and left us lovely bottle of wine and some canelés which were much appreciated.

  The location was great, the house was very nice and spacious and with a lot of character.
  
  Matthieu was very welcoming, easy to communicate with, and spent 10 mins sharing recommendations and suggestion sites to see which was appreciated.
  
  We were also grateful to be able to leave our luggage there to the afternoon as we had a late flight out.
  
  What could be improved: Only 1 thing – the toilets are in unexpected positions within the house and 1 suggestion would be to replace the frosted glass door with a solid door for privacy. This is just a small thing and as above, we were all very happy there and would return.

  Aude-Marie and Mathieu are excellent hosts. Very communicative, friendly and professional. The apartment is well located near the Jardin Public. The main bedroom is very large and comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: The kitchen and living area is probably too small for 6 adults. Also not enough glasses, mugs etc for a 3 bedroom apartment.
  The main bedroom is up a steep flight of stairs. Then the second and third bedrooms (which are quite small) are up a further steep flight of stairs. Travellers over say 60 (unless very fit) will find it hard to manage the stairs.

  Fantastic location. Very spacious accommodation. Friendly and accommodating host. We were very happy with this accommodation. Short walk to lots of bakeries, grocery stores, and restaurants. Aude Marie was an attentive and obliging host who communicated quickly.

  Location was great and close to the public park and a really cute neighborhood! We enjoyed proximity to the public transportation. The master suite was nice and spacious. The other bedrooms were spacious. The host was incredibly helpful and thorough. She walked me through all of the Bordeaux landmarks, including the best boulangerie in the neighborhood! Wonderful recommendations!
