Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Radisson on rue des Gamins, I wasn’t expecting much from the exterior. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that you’d probably walk right past if you weren’t looking for it, but that actually turned out to be one of its best features. You’re literally a three-minute stroll from Gare Saint-Jean, which is incredibly handy if you’re doing the whole Bordeaux-Paris TGV thing, but the street itself is surprisingly peaceful for being so close to a major train station.
The lobby hits that sweet spot between modern and welcoming – you know, not trying too hard to be trendy but definitely not stuck in 1995 either. What really impressed me was how the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. He walked me over to the window and pointed out this little bistro on rue Charles Domercq that locals actually go to, then mentioned the covered market on cours de la Marne where you can grab real coffee and pastries in the morning. That kind of insider knowledge makes a difference when you’re only in town for a few days.
The rooms are solid – I mean, it’s a 4-star Radisson so you know what you’re getting in terms of quality, but there are nice touches that show someone was thinking. The windows actually open (not a given in chain hotels), the shower pressure is excellent, and honestly, the beds are some of the most comfortable I’ve encountered in France. The AC works well too, which you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting during those sweltering July weeks when Bordeaux turns into a furnace. One small thing – the WiFi can get a bit sluggish in the evenings when everyone’s streaming, but it’s perfectly fine for email and basic browsing.
Here’s what sold me on the place though: the location gives you the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to walk to the historic center – it’s maybe 15 minutes to Place de la Bourse if you don’t mind a pleasant stroll along the Garonne – but you’re also right by all the transport links. The tram stops practically at your doorstep, and if you’re planning day trips to Saint-Émilion or the Médoc wine regions, you couldn’t ask for better positioning. Plus, parking is actually manageable in this area, which anyone who’s driven in central Bordeaux will tell you is basically a miracle.
The breakfast is better than it needs to be – proper French pastries alongside the usual international hotel spread – and they serve it until 10:30 on weekends, which shows they understand that not everyone’s on a business schedule. You’ll probably end up eating elsewhere most of the time anyway (there’s too much good food in Bordeaux not to explore), but it’s nice to have a reliable fallback option.

Reviews
Superb – Maurits from Netherlands – 22 July 2025 (9/10)
Completely functional hotel that meets all one’s needs in a city center
What could be improved: It was a bit further from the railway station than we thought and on the wrong side of it from a tourist perspectiveVery good – Florin from Finland – 12 July 2025 (8/10)
Nice clean rooms, comfortable beds
What could be improved: Poor breakfast and serviceVery good – Judie from United Kingdom – 7 July 2025 (8/10)
Near to station , we arrived by train. Our top tip – if using the station would be to find Halles 3 ( there's a tunnel that goes under the platforms to the 'back' of the station ) and the Radisson is only 5 mins walk from there. Google maps took us a long way round.
Warm welcome from reception staff. Comfortable room. Good value.
What could be improved: 40 min walk to the old town, but we chose it because of proximity to railway station so that was fine for us !
We were only there one night and left early so can't comment on breakfast.A little sanctuary away from the hustle & bustle! – Rebecca from United Kingdom – 6 July 2025 (9/10)
Really nice, modern and comfortable environment
Spacious room, great bathroom and lovey restaurant- great breakfast!!
What could be improved: For me the only thing was the air con! It was very hot when I visited, it didn't ruin the stay, but could be a little better efficient!
I suppose the are is a bit under construction, so a bit out on a limb.Superb – Bayan from Saudi Arabia – 2 July 2025 (9/10)
I liked that it's clean, cozy and close to the train station. I tried so many hotels in bordeaux and this is the best so far
What could be improved: The lightingGood hotel convenient for Bordeaux St Jean station – Christopher from United Kingdom – 25 June 2025 (9/10)
Large modern hotel conveniently located near Bordeaux's St Jean railway station (especially when we found the Hall 3 exit from the station nearest the hotel). Good size room with very comfortable beds. Good breakfast, and nice bar.
What could be improved: Less convenient a place to stay when visiting the city while the nearby tram route is closed for upgrading of the network. The hotel is not very well marked – we could not see any sign giving its name or saying it was a Radisson.Excellent stay – Lesley from United Kingdom – 20 June 2025 (9/10)
Very clean
Nice to catch the train the next morning – Fernanda from France – 7 June 2025 (10/10)
The bed was great, the room very cosy, all nice! Just difficult to find it because there is no sign of the hotel, it is behind the station and not of easy access without a car or if you are not at the station, since it is a small walk behind the station.
Stay was very brief but the hotel clean and comfortable the only things I had a problem was when I first arrived and the – Desrante from United States – 3 June 2025 (8/10)
Property was great
What could be improved: All was good and clean no complaintsPerfect for our Bordeaux break don’t be put off by location and view of roads and rail – Steve from United Kingdom – 2 June 2025 (9/10)
Excellent location near train station and tram stop into city centre
Friendly welcome and easy registration
Our signature room was clean and comfortable and a good size the general ambience was clean and modern
Good choices at breakfast
What could be improved: Hotel signage was confusing as didn’t say Radisson hotel we walked past it and it took some time to locate and this was using Google maps and asking (this just could be me!!)
Suggest some room info especially about air con instructions
No milk sachets in room
Yes I could have asked for the two things mentioned they weren’t an issue but just expected it
Generally nothing to complain about!!
