Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about the Radisson Blu on Rue Lucien Faure? It’s actually in this pretty cool spot that most tourists completely miss. I mean, everyone heads straight to the old town around Place de la Bourse, but this hotel sits in Bordeaux’s business district – which sounds boring until you realize you’re literally a five-minute tram ride from everything that matters, without dealing with cobblestone streets and tourist chaos outside your window every morning.
The building itself has this sleek, modern vibe that honestly feels more like what you’d find in Copenhagen than southwestern France, but it works. The lobby’s got these clean lines and lots of natural light, and the staff actually seems to know the city beyond just pointing you toward the wine museum. When I checked in, the guy at reception gave me this whole rundown about which tram stops to use for different neighborhoods – stuff you don’t get from Google Maps. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star chain, nothing revolutionary but done right. Big windows, comfortable beds, and – this might sound weird but it mattered to me – really good blackout curtains. The neighborhood gets some traffic noise during rush hour, but it dies down completely by evening.
Here’s the thing about staying here though – you’re positioned perfectly for actually experiencing Bordeaux like someone who lives there, not just hitting the tourist highlights. There’s this fantastic little market on Cours Victor Hugo that’s maybe a ten-minute walk away, and honestly, the coffee shops and bistros in this area cater more to locals than visitors, which means better prices and actual French conversations happening around you. Plus, if you’re here for the wine thing (and let’s be real, you probably are), you’re closer to some of the smaller wine bars that don’t make it into guidebooks. The tram connections from right outside the hotel get you to Saint-Pierre for dinner, or out to the more residential areas where you can find those hole-in-the-wall places that serve amazing duck confit without the tourist markup. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because I felt like I was just starting to figure out the city’s rhythm, and this location made that exploration feel natural rather than forced.
