You know what surprised me most about Place Saint Michel? It’s tucked away on this quiet little street – Rue des Faures – that honestly feels worlds apart from the tourist chaos, but you’re still just a few minutes’ walk from all the action. I mean, I’ve stayed in plenty of Bordeaux apartments that promise “central location” and then stick you next to a construction site or above a late-night bar, but this one actually gets the balance right.

The apartment itself has that lived-in charm that makes you feel like you’re staying at a well-traveled friend’s place rather than some sterile rental. The kitchen’s properly equipped too – not just the usual two plates and a broken coffee maker situation. I actually ended up cooking a few meals there because, well, the morning market on Cours Victor Hugo is just around the corner, and when you see those gorgeous tomatoes and local cheeses, you can’t help yourself. The WiFi works great if you need to get some work done (learned that the hard way at other places), and the shower pressure is honestly better than what I have at home. Small thing, but you appreciate it after walking around Bordeaux all day.

What really sold me on the area was discovering that little wine bar – Cave de l’Oncle Charles – literally two streets over. The owner, this chatty guy named Philippe, knows everything about Bordeaux wines and doesn’t make you feel stupid for asking basic questions. Plus, you’re close enough to walk to the Garonne riverfront for evening strolls, but far enough from the Place de la Victoire crowd that you can actually sleep at night. The tram stop at Musée d’Aquitaine is maybe a seven-minute walk, which makes getting to the wine regions super easy if that’s on your agenda. Honestly, for the price point and that 8.3 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable base that doesn’t feel touristy but keeps you connected to everything that makes Bordeaux worth visiting. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the building’s entrance is pretty understated (typical French apartment style), so don’t expect some grand hotel lobby experience, but that’s kind of the point, isn’t it?

  Located right în the center of the city, close to the grocery market, the apartament was everything we needed. The check in was very easy, it was a kitchen very well equiped,2 bed rooms and a very nice living room.

  Very nicely decorated apartment with great view on the square and very helpful owner to reply quickly to questions on how some things worked (air conditioning, locking door, parking). The card to use the public parking is also very useful, as the parking would be quite expensive.

  This property is in a great location. It was very clean and had just about everything you could need. it overlooks a plaza that gets lots of activity on the weekends. it’s close to a large market, Marches du Capucins, and the tram. be aware it is on the 4th floor with no elevator so if stairs are an issue for you, you may want to rethink this property.

  Getting access to the apartment was good as we were met by a friendly host at the entrance and provided with the keys and instructions. The lounge room and bedrooms were reasonably sized. There is a terrace with 2 chairs and a table. Parking at a nearby parking station was included in the price of the accommodation and we were provided with an access pass to swipe on entry and exit. This was very convenient! The surrounding area has some good places to eat and drink and get fresh produce.
