Hotel Description

Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Place du Palais on Rue du Chai des Farines, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this narrow street in the old quarter, and you might actually walk past it if you’re not paying attention. But man, once you step inside, it’s like they’ve managed to capture that perfect Bordeaux elegance without being stuffy about it.

The location is honestly what sold me on this place. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (you know, the famous water mirror that everyone posts on Instagram), but here’s the thing most people don’t realize – you’re also right in the heart of where locals actually hang out. There’s this amazing wine bar called Bar à Vin just around the corner that I stumbled onto because the hotel staff mentioned it, and I ended up there three nights in a row. The Quai des Chartrons is practically on your doorstep too, which means you can walk along the Garonne without dealing with the tourist crowds near the main squares. Parking was surprisingly manageable – there’s a public garage about five minutes away, and the front desk actually gave me specific directions instead of just vaguely pointing somewhere.

What really got me about this place was the attention to details that actually matter when you’re traveling. The rooms have these thick curtains that block out the morning light completely (crucial when you’ve been sampling Bordeaux wines until midnight), and the beds are firm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sinking into quicksand. The bathrooms are bigger than what you’d expect in a historic building – I mean, you’re not going to be doing yoga in there, but you can actually move around. The WiFi worked everywhere, even in the lobby corners where hotel internet usually goes to die. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too; no upselling or lengthy explanations about amenities I didn’t ask about.

You know what I appreciated most though? The staff seemed to actually know Bordeaux, not just the tourist highlights. When I asked about finding a good bottle shop, they didn’t send me to some overpriced place near the cathedral – they pointed me toward this family-run cave on Rue Notre Dame where I found some incredible local producers I’d never heard of. The neighborhood gets pretty quiet after 10 PM, which was perfect for sleeping, but during the day there’s this gentle buzz of people heading to cafés and markets. It feels authentically French without trying too hard, if that makes sense. The 8.7 rating honestly seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury, but everything works exactly as it should, and you’ll probably find yourself planning your next Bordeaux trip before you’ve even checked out.

We had an amazing stay in this flat for the wine festival. The location couldn't be better – right in the heart of the city. The flat itself is big, clean, modern, and incredibly spacious. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay in the city center!

  • The view and location are fantastic. The apartment has everything you need. – Matthew from Germany – 30 March 2024 (10/10)

The view and location are fantastic. The apartment has everything you need. There is plenty of kitchen and dining amenities. There are two showers. Great place to stay for a family. The parking area is perfect for a family car. The detailed instructions for parking and accessing the apartment given by the manager are great. The washer/ dryer works. Just google the instructions.

What could be improved: It would be nice if the door that was between the garage and the foyer of the building was open so we didn’t have to go out to the street when unloading and loading the car. The trash room made the foyer smelly.
