Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Notre Dame Apartment? The name is completely misleading – there’s no cathedral in sight, and honestly, that’s the best part. This place sits right in Chartrons, and if you’ve never wandered through this neighborhood, you’re missing out on the real Bordeaux. I mean, everyone flocks to the riverfront tourist spots, but Chartrons still feels like where actual Bordelais live and shop.

The apartment itself is solid three-star territory – nothing fancy, but everything works the way it should. The building has that typical Bordeaux stone facade that looks almost golden when the afternoon light hits it just right, and inside, well, it’s got character without being stuffy about it. I actually loved how quiet it was at night, which surprised me since Cours Portal de la Monnaie can get pretty lively during market days. The walls must be thicker than they look. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that overly formal hotel desk drama, just practical and friendly. Parking can be a bit of a hunt around here (welcome to any French city center), but there’s usually something within a few blocks if you’re patient.

What really makes this spot work is the neighborhood itself. You’ve got the Sunday antique market literally around the corner – and I’m talking about the good stuff, not tourist trinkets. The whole area comes alive on weekends, but Tuesday through Thursday it settles into this lovely, everyday rhythm. There’s this bakery on Rue Notre Dame that does these incredible canelés, and honestly, having that five minutes from your door beats any hotel breakfast buffet. The tram line is right there too, so getting down to the old city or out to the wine regions is actually easier than staying in the more “central” hotels. I spent way more time just walking around Chartrons than I planned – there’s something about those tree-lined streets and the way the neighborhood shifts from residential to artsy to commercial that just works. For the price point and that 8-out-of-10 rating, it makes perfect sense. You’re not getting luxury, but you’re getting authenticity, and in a city like Bordeaux where the real charm is in living like a local for a few days, that feels like the better deal.

Reviews

  • Perfect location and apartment! – C from United States – 3 May 2025 (9/10)

Beautiful apartment, very clean and quiet. The area is excellent- easily walkable to everywhere, but the neighborhood is wonderful on its own. Loved the little coffee shop nearby and a bunch of great restaurants and antique shops. Would stay there again!

  • Will definitely return! – Lisa from United Kingdom – 18 October 2024 (8/10)

  • Good location and spacious – Leanne from Australia – 20 September 2024 (8/10)

Very spacious and light and airy. Nice and quiet. Good location

What could be improved: Smell of cigarettes when we entered was unpleasant and lingered for several days. Making contact with someone at the end of our stay – a message was sent in French and when I asked for English translation, I heard nothing , when in earlier correspondence they had used English .

  • Great and Comfortable Apartment in a the Chartron District of Bordeaux – Melissa from Ireland – 2 August 2023 (9/10)

We loved the location and the ease of access by public transport. The apartment had everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and fans provided for the summer weather in Bordeaux.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Good location, clean, facilities in the house are good. Very pleasant stay – Nádia from Portugal – 6 January 2023 (8/10)

location is the best thing about the house. the house is comfortable, heater and internet works well.

What could be improved: During the morning there are pigeons in the roof, so their noise is quite disturbing and the douche is broken so you have to hang it with one hand if need to wash your hair which is quite annoying.

  • Good – Elise from Australia – 17 May 2024 (7/10)

The location was great, easy to find and the check in process was simple.

What could be improved: There were broken amenities (the shower wasn’t really effective) and the door was difficult to lock and unlock.

  • Exceptional – Claire from Spain – 8 December 2024 (10/10)

    Very pretty and lovely location.

What could be improved: It would be a good idea to put another door to separate the bedroom and sitting room.

  • Perfect location but quite cold in winter time – Jennyfer from United Kingdom – 27 November 2023 (6/10)

Perfect location, decent size, all amenities. Easy to check in and out.

What could be improved: The flat is particularly cold and humid. The bathroom feels tired with humidity smells, weak shower head pressure.

  • Superb – Ekaterina from Russia – 14 October 2023 (9/10)

What could be improved: В квартире нет стиральной машины.

  • Très bel appartement – Courte from France – 16 July 2023 (8/10)

L'appartement est spacieux, éclairé et trés bien localisé, le carrefour contact en bas dans la rue.
Une station de tramway à 2mn à pied.

What could be improved: Manque la climatisation dans l'appartement, et un micro onde.
