Hotel Description

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to Nona Home Bordeaux on Rue Rolland – it’s tucked into this narrow street that you’d probably miss if you weren’t looking for it. But that’s actually part of its charm, you know? You’re literally in the heart of Bordeaux’s old town, where the cobblestones are worn smooth and every building has that honey-colored stone that glows amber when the afternoon light hits it just right.

The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how people live, not just how tourists sleep. The lobby has this lived-in elegance – think mid-century modern furniture that’s comfortable enough to actually sink into, mixed with these gorgeous French antiques that don’t feel precious or untouchable. I mean, you can tell it’s a 4-star place, but it doesn’t hit you over the head with it. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood too, which matters more than you’d think. When I asked about dinner spots, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist map – he actually told me which bistros the locals frequent and warned me that the wine bar around the corner gets packed after 8 PM (solid advice, turns out).

What really sold me on this place is how it sits in the city. You’re a three-minute walk from Place du Parlement, where the Saturday morning market happens, and maybe five minutes from the riverfront if you want to watch the sunset reflect off the Garonne. But here’s the thing – Rue Rolland itself is quiet enough that you’re not dealing with the clatter of late-night revelers or delivery trucks at dawn. The rooms face an interior courtyard mostly, so you get that peaceful sleep you actually came to France for. The neighborhood feels properly Bordelais, if that makes sense – there’s a boulangerie next door where the same woman has probably been making croissants for twenty years, and you’ll see more locals walking their dogs than tourists consulting maps. The whole area has this easy rhythm to it, especially in the early mornings when the shopkeepers are hosing down their storefronts and the coffee shops are just starting to fill up with people reading newspapers and taking their time.

I’ll be straight with you – it’s not the fanciest hotel in Bordeaux, and if you’re looking for a spa or room service, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you’re staying in someone’s exceptionally well-designed home in one of France’s most beautiful cities, this is your spot. The 8.4 rating makes perfect sense when you actually experience how everything just… works. Nothing flashy, just thoughtful and real in a way that makes you want to come back.

Reviews

  • Such a nice space to return to at the end of each day. – Sally from Australia – 14 June 2025 (9/10)

Lovely, beautifully styled place in a central location.

What could be improved: No lift! Just a problem on the first day to take my luggage up three flights of stairs at the end of a long hot day travelling! If travelling light, then no issue!

  • Great location, lovely apartment – Margioz from Australia – 18 April 2023 (9/10)

    Was very close to everything

  • one of the best places to stay in bordeaux – Pia-maria from United Arab Emirates – 23 September 2022 (9/10)

What could be improved: nothing to say

  • Great accommodation in a very central yet quiet location. – Natalie from United Kingdom – 12 September 2022 (8/10)

Property is in a great location. Very central yet very quiet. Livingroom area is very spacious and kitchen well equipped.
    Host very helpful.

What could be improved: Worth noting that the second bedroom area just has a curtain to the livingroom rather than a door.

  • No elevator…SURPRISE! – Cynthia from United States – 2 September 2022 (8/10)

Location was perfect! Accommodations were very nice and comfortable. The price was acceptable.

What could be improved: The staff was not present upon arrival. The telephone number that was advertised was incorrect. We were not aware of the fact that the home is on the 5th floor (approx. 55 steps) and there is no elevator. We had to carry bags weighing 50 lbs up 5 flight of stairs. We are both 70 years old! Staff did assist.

  • Superb – Leda from United States – 30 September 2024 (9/10)

Fantastic location and very nicely appointed apartment. The host was friendly, helpful and responsive.

  • Peaceful – Emma from United Kingdom – 12 September 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location, quiet area. Old beautiful building and very well kept, clean.
Everything you could need in the apartment.

What could be improved: Only thing was we felt over priced for one weeks holiday but that was our choice. Don’t think I’d spend that much again when there are other apartments available

  • Comfortable, spacious, well equipped, great location. – Clare from United Kingdom – 3 April 2023 (8/10)

Location, size of property, well equipped, comfortable main lounge area & kitchen, coffee machine, fab shower.

What could be improved: Toilet door was difficult to shut/open. Duvet & pillows could be better.

  • Perfect location , lovely property – Suzanne from Australia – 1 June 2023 (8/10)

The apartment appeared to be the lived in home of Angela and The apartment was lovingly presented. The kitchen was fully equipped, however I felt a bit reluctant using anything as it was her home.

What could be improved: The main bedroom and fold up sofa bed consisted of a fitted sheet, then a soft furry blanket then cotton cover on top . No top sheet or Doona cover between the blanket , which I thought was strange . I did find some in the cupboard and fitted them myself. The pillows were not proper bed pillows – more decorative couch pillows and I did notice that one in the main bedroom was stained.
To my shock and horror, when I pulled down the covers of both beds, on the white sheets I noticed a strand of black hair on each bed. It made me feel uncomfortable and then questioned to myself whether the sheets were clean. It may have come from Angela’s hair, while making the bed, I don’t know , but it was a definite turn off.

  • This is one the nicest places I've ever stayed. The host is amazing. Don't miss staying here. – Chelsea from United States – 30 May 2025 (10/10)

The location, the bed, the well-equipped kitchen, the high-end yet cozy atmosphere, etc. etc. I absolutely adored my stay here.
