Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about the Moxy Bordeaux? It’s actually got this really cool industrial-chic thing going on that somehow works perfectly in this old port area. I mean, when you first walk up to 25 Quai du Maroc, you’re literally standing where cargo ships used to dock – and honestly, the hotel plays into that history rather than fighting it. The building has these huge windows that face the Garonne, and if you snag a river-view room (which I’d definitely recommend), you’ll wake up to joggers and cyclists cruising along the quay path at sunrise.

The whole vibe is what I’d call “millennial-friendly industrial” – think exposed brick, neon signs, and a lobby that doubles as a co-working space during the day and transforms into this buzzy social hub at night. The staff is surprisingly laid-back for a hotel that looks this designed, if that makes sense. Check-in was smooth, and they actually gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps. Speaking of food, their grab-and-go breakfast setup is pretty clever – nothing fancy, but decent coffee and pastries that’ll fuel you for a morning walk through the nearby Chartrons district.

Here’s the thing about this location that booking sites don’t really tell you: you’re in this sweet spot between the historic center and the wine warehouses that have been converted into galleries and antique shops. It’s maybe a 15-minute walk to Place des Quinconces (or hop on the tram line that runs right along the quay), but you’re also surrounded by these narrow streets full of wine bars and bistros that locals actually frequent. The rooms themselves are compact but smart – everything has a place, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable considering the modern-minimalist aesthetic. I will say the walls aren’t super thick, so you might hear your neighbors if they’re being loud, but it wasn’t a deal-breaker for me. The shower pressure is excellent though, which honestly matters more than soundproofing sometimes.

What really sold me on this place was stumbling back from dinner one night and seeing the hotel’s ground floor still alive with people – some working on laptops, others just hanging out with drinks. It felt authentic rather than forced, like the kind of spot where you might actually strike up a conversation with another traveler. Plus, if you’re into wine tourism (and let’s be real, why else are you in Bordeaux?), several of the major wine tour companies pick up right from this area, and you can walk to some excellent wine bars along Cours de l’Intendance without needing a taxi. For a 3-star hotel pulling an 8.6 rating, the Moxy delivers on being exactly what it promises – modern, social, and positioned perfectly for exploring both sides of Bordeaux’s personality.

Hotels in Bordeaux offer guests the perfect blend of French elegance and modern comfort, with many featuring wine cellars and sommelier services to enhance the authentic regional experience.

The Moxy has a completely different approach to hotel décor. It appears the target customer is a young person working away from their normal office. The seating area, shared for meals, is equipped with tables with PC connection points. The rooms have similar connection points but no table space. However, this works well even for retired tourists.

Good location for several of Bordeaux's tourist attractions.
