Mercure Bordeaux Centre Ville Overview
Honestly, when I first walked into the Mercure Bordeaux Centre Ville, I wasn’t expecting much – you know how chain hotels can be pretty hit or miss. But this place actually surprised me in the best way. The lobby has this warm, contemporary vibe that doesn’t feel sterile like so many four-star properties do. It’s tucked away on Rue Robert Lateulade, which is brilliant because you’re literally a three-minute walk from Place Gambetta but you don’t get the street noise that comes with being right on the main drag.
What really sold me on this place was how the staff seemed to actually know Bordeaux – not just the tourist spots everyone mentions. The front desk guy told me about this little wine bar around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and when I mentioned I was looking for somewhere good for breakfast that wasn’t touristy, he pointed me toward Cours de l’Intendance where locals actually go. The rooms themselves are well, they’re what you’d expect from a solid four-star – nothing that’ll blow your mind but everything works properly (the shower pressure is actually decent, which can’t be said for every hotel in this price range). I mean, the décor is a bit safe and corporate, but honestly after a day wandering around the old town, you just want somewhere comfortable to crash.
The location though – that’s where this hotel really shines. You’re close enough to walk to the cathedral and all the main sights, but far enough from the real tourist chaos that you can actually get some sleep. I stayed here during the wine festival in June and it was busy everywhere, but Rue Robert Lateulade stayed relatively quiet at night. Plus, if you’re planning to do any day trips to Saint-Émilion or the Médoc (which you absolutely should), the train station is about a fifteen-minute walk or a quick tram ride. Speaking of trams – there’s a stop practically outside your door, which makes getting around the city ridiculously easy. The 7.9 rating seems about right to me – it’s not going to be the highlight of your trip, but it won’t disappoint you either. It’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should, the staff genuinely wants to help, and you wake up feeling like you made a smart choice rather than wondering why you didn’t spend a bit more somewhere else.
Many travelers prefer to book apartments in Bordeaux through local agencies that offer personalized recommendations and insider knowledge about the best neighborhoods for exploring the city’s rich cultural heritage.

A wonderful hotel company.Anne from Ireland (8/10)
Breakfast was average. Hot food was cold. Location of hotel was very disappointing, stuck in a dreary street with brutalist buildings all around.
Chee from United Arab Emirates (9/10)
The location is only a short walking distance from the city centre. Very convenient to go about.
Matthew from United Kingdom (8/10)
Rooms were comfortable.
Scott from United States (8/10)
The staff was very accommodating. They spoke English with no hesitation or condescension. Very helpful staff. The hotel is one of a few large concrete bunker like buildings in the neighborhood. But, once you walk a couple of blocks, you’re in old Bordeaux. We walked easily to many of the sights on the way to the river. We even walked to the Cite du Vin and back. Tram to airport is a block away. 1.90 euro. Make sure you get on the tram that says “aeroport”.

Very modern, good location to city centre and tram
