Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about Maison Bouquiere La Cabrerie? It’s tucked into this quiet corner of Bordeaux’s city center where you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. I mean, it’s not one of those flashy places with doormen and marble lobbies – honestly, that’s part of its charm. The building has this lovely weathered stone facade that feels properly French without trying too hard, and when you step inside, there’s immediately this sense that someone actually cares about the details here.

The location is honestly perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with tourist chaos. You’re literally a five-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (where everyone takes those mirror photos), but the street itself is residential enough that you’re not hearing drunk groups stumbling back from the wine bars at 2 AM. I stayed here during harvest season last October, and the staff – who actually seem to enjoy their jobs – pointed me toward this incredible little wine shop on Rue des Bahutiers that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re thoughtfully laid out with these high ceilings that make everything feel more spacious than it actually is. What I really appreciated was the attention to comfort over flash – proper blackout curtains, a shower with actual water pressure, and beds that don’t feel like you’re sleeping on concrete wrapped in fancy linens.

Here’s the thing about three-star places in France – they can either feel like they’re apologizing for not being fancier, or they can lean into what they do well. This one definitely does the latter. The breakfast situation is solid (real croissants, not those sad frozen things), and they’ve got this small courtyard that’s perfect for evening wine if the weather cooperates. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of town, but there’s a public garage about two blocks away that won’t break the bank. The 8.4 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not trying to be the most luxurious place in Bordeaux, but it nails the fundamentals while giving you that authentic neighborhood feel that chain hotels just can’t replicate. If you’re the type who’d rather spend your money on incredible dinners and wine tastings than on marble bathrooms you’ll barely use, this place gets it.

Visitors often choose Bordeaux’s apartments over traditional hotels because they provide more space, kitchen facilities, and the opportunity to live like a local in this magnificent wine capital.

An apartment with character, clean and very well located, appropriate theoretically for up to 4 persons. Quite good value for money option. It is highly recommended provided that you do not have early arrival in the city since the check in is at 15 00 no matter if the apartment is ready in advance and also to be prepared to go up and down two floors through a non attractive entrance.

  • Charlotte from United Kingdom (9/10)

Beautiful apartment, so stylishly decorated. The location was fantastic and all of the communication and instructions beforehand were clear and timely. Great value for money, would definitely stay again!
