You know what struck me first about Magnifiques Appartements? The name sounds fancy as hell, but honestly, it just means “beautiful apartments on the Bordeaux quays” – and they’re not overselling it. I mean, you’re literally right there on Quai des Chartrons, which is this gorgeous stretch along the Garonne River where locals actually jog in the mornings and couples stroll with wine glasses during sunset (very French, obviously).

The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on – you know, those cream-colored facades that look golden when the light hits them just right around 7 PM. What’s cool is that the Chartrons neighborhood used to be all wine merchants and ship traders back in the day, so there’s this authentic maritime vibe that tourist areas try to fake but can’t. You’ll hear the trams rumbling by on Cours Xavier Arnozan (which is actually convenient, not annoying), and there’s this constant gentle hum of river life that’s way better than regular city noise. The apartments themselves feel more like someone’s well-appointed pied-à-terre than a hotel room – I’m talking actual kitchens where you can store that bottle of Margaux you definitely bought, proper living spaces, the works.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff actually knows the neighborhood. Like, they’ll tell you that the best coffee isn’t at the obvious café on the corner, but at this tiny place called Plume Small Kitchen about a three-minute walk away. They’ll also mention (if you ask) that parking can be tricky during the antique market on Thursdays, but there’s usually spots behind the CAPC museum. The 8.4 rating makes sense – it’s not perfect (the WiFi can be spotty on the upper floors, and don’t expect daily housekeeping like a traditional hotel), but the location is absolutely killer. You’re a quick walk to Place des Quinconces, you can stumble home from dinner in Saint-Pierre quarter, and honestly, just stepping out your door onto those riverside quays feels like you’re living in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it. During summer evenings, there’s often street musicians and pop-up wine bars right outside – which is either charming or slightly loud depending on your mood and how much Sauternes you’ve had with dinner.

  Superb location, when we visited, it was extremely hot, I made a request for a fan or two and they kindly obliged.

  Wonderful location, decorated well, lots of natural light in the living room. Didn't appear to have AC – I think it would get hot in summer! Well stocked small kitchen, good water pressure.
  
  What could be improved: Keep in mind its up two flights of stairs, no elevator. Probably best for couples and not young kids.

  Loved the Chartrons district and an easy walk to other locations of interest in central Bordeaux. Easy access to good dining options and to a well stocked local grocer.

  What could be improved: Smells from the garbage room at base of stairs were pretty pungent. Not everyone using apartments was considerate when in the stairways in the evenings. The presence of the cruise ships for the entire duration of our stay was disappointing.

  The apartment was bright and comfortable and we enjoyed the terrace. The location was perfect. There was a tram stop outside the door and it was only a 10 minute walk to the Bourse. Lots of restaurants nearby.
  
  What could be improved: Lack of clarity about parking. A small clear map of the roads leading to the apartment and then an explanation re getting access to the carpark. One meets the rep on the street at the apartment and he gives you a pass card for the carpark which is nearby. I recommend that this information should be clear beforehand .

  Bright and big appartment in typical ancient building of old Bordeaux with view to the river. Nicely decorated and very well located.
  
  What could be improved: The kitchen had not been properly cleaned. The fridge contained some left over food, the garbage bin place under the sink was full of bread crumbs and the dishwasher was full of dishes covered in limescale.
  It would be useful to install a keybox as the person who waited for us was not able to provide much practical info anyway, e.g. on the parking place.
