Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about this place? Walking up to 1 Rue Castillon, I was expecting just another cramped city apartment, but this third-floor gem actually feels like someone’s elegant Bordeaux home – if that someone has impeccable taste and three generous bedrooms to spare.

The location is honestly ridiculous in the best way possible. I mean, you’re literally in the thick of Bordeaux’s historic center, where you can practically roll out of bed and stumble into some of the city’s best wine bars. The Rue Sainte-Catherine shopping stretch is maybe a two-minute walk, and you’re close enough to hear the evening buzz from Place Gambetta without it keeping you awake (the windows do their job well). What I love is that it sits on one of those quieter side streets – you get all the hypercentre energy during the day, but it actually settles down nicely at night. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux stone facade that photographs beautifully, though fair warning, it’s a third-floor walk-up, so pack light or embrace the cardio.

Inside, the apartment really lives up to its “magnifique” billing – and I don’t throw that word around lightly after seeing my share of overhyped vacation rentals. The three bedrooms are properly sized (not those shoe-box situations you sometimes get in city centers), and there’s this lovely flow between the living spaces that makes it perfect whether you’re traveling with family or friends who actually want to spend time together. The kitchen is well-equipped enough that we ended up cooking with fresh ingredients from the Marché des Capucins – honestly, when you’re this close to incredible local produce, it feels almost wasteful not to. The decor strikes that sweet spot between stylish and livable; you feel like you’re staying somewhere special without being afraid to put your feet up. I particularly appreciated the thoughtful touches – good lighting for actually reading, decent water pressure (trust me, this matters after long days exploring the city), and windows that open wide enough to let in those gorgeous Bordeaux evenings. The 8.9 rating makes total sense when you experience how smoothly everything works, from the responsive host communication to the little details that show someone really cares about guest experience. It’s one of those places where you find yourself lingering over morning coffee, planning your day around the nearby covered market, and genuinely sad to pack up and leave.

  • Exceptional – Angus from United Kingdom – 11 July 2025 (10/10)

Awesome location and check in staff very accommodating and helpful

What could be improved: 74 stairs up is tricky with cases. Ensuite does not include toilets.

  • Great location and well appointed apartment – Kenneth from United Kingdom – 12 June 2025 (8/10)

Central location and man6 bars cafes and restaurants nearby.
Well equipped apartment with plenty of towels and nepresso pod coffee machine.
Can be a bit noisy at night but not too bad.

What could be improved: Beware of 74 steps up from ground floor so heavy luggage can be a big effort.

  • Perfect location, light, bright and comfortable. – Andrew from Australia – 18 April 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Some drainage issues in one of the bathroom. Suggest to pack a lighter bag next time as you need to walk it up 3 floors 😄

  • Clean, Roomy, and lovely in a great location. – Tim from Australia – 8 March 2025 (10/10)

    Good sized bedrooms
Appreciated being met by the host on the first day.
Really appreciated everyday items like cooking implements, washing powder, olive oil, salt, and herbs. We were able to cook up soups for dinner without troubles.
Location was very convenient for supermarkets, lots of shopping and public transport – loved the trams.

What could be improved: Bit of snow odour in one ensuite.
Master ensuite shower was not really useable due to no shower screens. Bath looked nice. Ended up sharing one of the ensuites instead. This was a minor issue.
