Hotel Description
Okay, so I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name “Love Loft,” I was expecting something cheesy or overly romantic in that forced way some boutique hotels try too hard to achieve. But walking into this place on Rue de Madrid, I was actually pleasantly surprised by how tastefully they’ve pulled it off. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux stone facade you see throughout the city, but inside they’ve done this really nice contemporary renovation that feels intimate without being kitschy.
The location is what really sold me though. You’re right in the heart of things – I mean, you can walk to Place Gambetta in about five minutes, and the Grand Théâtre is maybe ten minutes if you’re taking your time. What I loved is that Rue de Madrid is just quiet enough that you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling back from the bars on Rue Sainte-Catherine, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. There’s this little wine bar called Le Petit Commerce just around the corner that honestly serves some of the best oysters I’ve had outside of Cap Ferret, and the staff at Love Loft actually recommended it – which tells you they know their neighborhood.
The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid four-star place, but with some nice touches that show someone was actually thinking about the guest experience. The lighting is really well done (you know how some hotels have those harsh overhead lights that make everything feel clinical?), and they’ve got these great blackout curtains that actually work – crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag or if you’ve had one too many glasses of that incredible Bordeaux wine. I stayed in one of their corner rooms and the shower pressure was fantastic, which sounds like a small thing but honestly makes such a difference after a long day of walking around the city. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a light sleeper, you might hear your neighbors coming and going – though it wasn’t bad enough to really bother me.
What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making sure you had a good stay. Check-in was smooth, they stored my bags without any fuss when I arrived early, and they had actual local recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the obvious tourist spots. The 9.2 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right while adding those little extras that make you want to come back next time you’re in Bordeaux.
