Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Live Hotels Bordeaux Lac? It’s actually not in the touristy center where everyone expects to stay – it’s up in the Lac district, which honestly works out better than you’d think. The area around Avenue de Chavailles has this refreshingly modern vibe, and you’re looking at maybe a 15-minute tram ride to get into the heart of Bordeaux proper. I mean, the Trade Fair grounds are practically next door, so if you’re here on business, you’ve basically won the location lottery.
The hotel itself has that clean, contemporary feel that three-star places do well when they’re trying harder than the big chains. Nothing too fancy, but the rooms are genuinely comfortable – decent-sized beds, good water pressure in the showers (trust me, this matters after a long day walking around wine country), and surprisingly effective soundproofing considering you’re near some busy roads. The staff actually seems to care about what they’re doing, which… well, it’s not always a given in mid-range hotels, is it? Check-in was smooth when I was there, though I’d imagine things get hectic during wine harvest season or when there’s a big event at the convention center. The breakfast situation is solid – not Instagram-worthy or anything, but proper coffee and enough variety that you’re not stuck with stale croissants and sad fruit.
What really sells this place for me is how it positions you in Bordeaux. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto Rue Sainte-Catherine for shopping, but the tram connections are genuinely good, and honestly? Sometimes it’s nice to come back to somewhere that feels a bit removed from all the tourist chaos. Plus, if you’ve got a car – and let’s be real, if you’re planning to explore the wine regions properly, you probably should – the parking situation here is infinitely less stressful than trying to navigate the medieval streets downtown. The Lac district has some decent restaurants within walking distance too, nothing that’ll change your life, but places where locals actually eat rather than tourist traps charging €25 for mediocre duck confit. I’d say this spot works especially well if you’re using Bordeaux as a base for day trips rather than planning to spend every waking moment in the historic center – though honestly, even if you are, that tram ride isn’t exactly a hardship.

Hotel was nice and room was comfortable. Roof top pool very small. Hotel a bit of a distance from city, tram stop 10 minute walk away. Nothing else in the area all residential.

We thought the hotel itself was really great value for money with friendly and welcoming staff. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a lot of choice . The hotel also has a small gym and pool which weren’t too busy . There is a small shopping centre about a ten minute walk away . Bordeaux lac is very close as well offering pretty views and we could see people swimming.
