Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Les Capucines while wandering through Bordeaux’s old quarter, and honestly? It’s one of those places that grows on you. The apartment sits right on rue Permentade – which, if you know Bordeaux at all, puts you smack in the heart of everything without being on one of those tourist-trap streets where you can’t sleep past 7am. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (that famous water mirror everyone posts on Instagram), but tucked away enough that you actually feel like you’re living in the city rather than just visiting it.
The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone facade – you know, that pale golden stone that makes everything look romantic even when it’s just your Tuesday morning coffee run. Inside, the apartment definitely feels lived-in rather than hotel-sterile, which I actually loved. The rooms are what you’d expect from a 3-star place – clean, functional, nothing fancy but everything works. The kitchen’s small but perfectly adequate if you want to grab some cheese and wine from the local market (there’s a great one on Cours Victor Hugo, just saying). What really sold me was the neighborhood vibe – you’ve got proper Bordelais cafés where locals actually drink their morning coffee, not just tourist spots serving overpriced croissants. The pharmacy on the corner becomes your landmark, and the woman who runs the little épicerie down the street will remember your face after two days.
Parking’s a bit of a puzzle – like everywhere in central Bordeaux, really – but there’s usually street parking if you’re patient, or a public lot about ten minutes away. The tram’s right there too, so you can easily hit the wine regions if that’s your thing. Look, it’s not going to win any design awards, and the WiFi can be temperamental (especially during busy periods), but there’s something genuinely comfortable about the place. It feels like staying at a friend’s apartment rather than checking into some anonymous hotel room. The rating sits at a 7, which feels about right – it’s solid, reliable, and the location really can’t be beat. You’ll spend most of your time exploring the city anyway, so having a good base that doesn’t break the bank in one of Bordeaux’s most walkable neighborhoods? That’s actually pretty perfect. Plus, you’re close enough to hear the cathedral bells in the morning, which sounds cheesy but is honestly one of those little details that makes you remember why you love traveling in the first place.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Bordeaux at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals.
