Hotel Description
Honestly, when I first walked up to Le Richelieu on Quai Richelieu, I wasn’t expecting much from the street level – it’s one of those classic Bordeaux buildings that keeps its secrets hidden behind that typical cream stone facade. But then you get inside this duplex apartment and, well, the view just hits you. I mean, you’re literally overlooking the Garonne with those gorgeous 18th-century buildings reflecting in the water, and if you time it right during golden hour, it’s pretty spectacular.
The duplex setup actually works really well – downstairs you’ve got your living area and kitchen (which is better equipped than I expected for a 3-star place), and then upstairs feels properly separate for sleeping. The stairs are a bit steep, so maybe not ideal if you’re traveling with heavy luggage or mobility issues, but it gives the place character. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the city center. The Quai Richelieu side faces the river, so you avoid most of the street noise from Cours Victor Hugo, which can get pretty lively on weekends.
Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where you can walk to basically everything that matters in Bordeaux. The tram’s right there if you need it, but honestly, I barely used it – Place de la Bourse is maybe a 10-minute stroll, and you can wander through those narrow streets around Rue Sainte-Catherine without dealing with tourist crowds first thing in the morning. There’s a Monoprix just around the corner on Cours de l’Intendance, which is clutch for picking up wine and cheese (because, you know, Bordeaux). The building itself doesn’t have parking, but there’s a public garage nearby – though fair warning, it fills up during wine season when everyone’s in town for tastings.
I’ll be straight with you about the 7.2 rating – it’s probably about right. The place has charm and that view really is something special, but the furnishings are a bit dated and the WiFi can be spotty upstairs. The shower pressure’s decent though, and the heating works well, which matters more than you’d think in those old Bordeaux buildings during winter. Check-in was smooth enough, though you’ll want to coordinate timing since it’s not a traditional hotel setup. What really sold me on the place was sitting on that little balcony area in the evening with a glass of local wine, watching the light change over the water – it’s one of those moments that makes you remember why you travel in the first place.
Hotels in Bordeaux offer guests the perfect blend of French elegance and modern comfort, with many featuring wine cellars and sommelier services to enhance the authentic regional experience.

It was very close to transportation, the river, and the old city. Each bedroom had its own bathroom which was well stocked with towels and toiletries. As well, the kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to make meals “at home.” The view was lovely.
