Hotel Description
So I stumbled across Le New Vintage when I was hunting for something central in Bordeaux that wouldn’t completely destroy my budget – and honestly, I’m glad I took the gamble on this little apartment-style spot on rue du Loup. The name’s a bit quirky (very French to mix English and French like that), but it actually captures the vibe pretty well.
The location is what really sold me, though. You’re literally a three-minute walk from Place du Parlement, which means you can roll out of bed and grab coffee at one of those impossibly charming cafés before the tourist crowds descend. I mean, rue du Loup itself is this narrow cobblestone street that feels properly old-world Bordeaux – you know, the kind where you can touch both buildings if you stretch your arms out. The apartment has that renovated historic feel where they’ve kept the character (think exposed beams and thick walls that actually keep the street noise down) but added modern touches that actually work. The kitchen setup was surprisingly functional – I wasn’t expecting much since hotel kitchenettes are usually just for show, but this one had everything I needed to make proper morning coffee and even cook a simple dinner with ingredients from the Marché des Capucins, which is maybe a ten-minute walk south.
What I really appreciated was how the place feels like you’re staying in someone’s actual home rather than a sterile hotel room. The furniture has personality, there are books on the shelves (some in English, thank god), and the bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that makes you want to stay in there forever. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare in this part of the city center – I ended up using the underground garage at Place Gambetta, which is about a seven-minute walk but totally worth it to avoid circling the narrow streets looking for a spot. The host was pretty responsive when I had questions, and check-in was smooth with the key box system they use. Sure, it’s not luxury – the WiFi occasionally hiccupped, and the stairs up to the apartment are definitely a workout if you’ve packed heavy – but for the price point and location, you’re getting solid value. You’re close enough to walk to the major sights (Saint-André Cathedral, Grand Théâtre, all that), but you’re also in a neighborhood where locals actually live and work, which gives you a better feel for real Bordeaux life. Plus, being right in the heart of things means you can easily walk back for an afternoon rest between morning sightseeing and evening wine tasting – trust me, you’ll want those breaks.
