You know what caught me off guard about LE COCOON 29? The name makes it sound all fancy and boutique-y, but honestly, it’s more like staying in someone’s really well-kept apartment right in the heart of Bordeaux – and I mean that in the best possible way. Walking up to 29 Rue de la Devise, you’re literally steps from Place du Parlement (those gorgeous 18th-century facades everyone posts on Instagram), but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the street noise from all the wine bars until late at night.

The whole setup feels refreshingly unpretentious for a 3-star place. I mean, don’t expect marble lobbies or concierge service, but what you get is actually better – it’s like having a local friend who happens to have impeccable taste in interiors. The rooms have this clean, minimalist thing going on without feeling sterile, and the beds are surprisingly comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses, so this matters). What really sold me though was stepping out the front door and realizing you can walk to Marché des Capucins in about eight minutes for the best coffee and pastries, or wander down to the Garonne riverfront when you need to clear your head after too much Bordeaux wine – which, let’s be honest, is going to happen.

The Cocoonr management style works well here too. Check-in is smooth and straightforward, no hovering staff or unnecessary formalities, just the key codes and local tips you actually need. The 7.5 rating feels about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but everything works, it’s spotlessly clean, and the location is genuinely brilliant if you want to explore Bordeaux on foot. I loved being able to duck into Rue Sainte-Catherine for shopping (Europe’s longest pedestrian street, by the way), then come back to this quiet little street when the crowds got overwhelming. Fair warning though – parking around here is pretty much a nightmare, so either embrace the tram system or book a spot in advance. The area gets busy during festival season and harvest time, but that’s half the charm of staying right in the city center. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat if you’re the type who’d rather spend money on wine and food than hotel amenities you’ll never use.

  It was private, warm, quiet, and well equipped. It was convenient and close to everything we wanted to visit. Location was great. Really appreciated the washing machine/dryer. Also appreciated the desk/table area for extra space to put things.
