Hotel Description

You know what? I’ve walked past Le Boutique Hotel & Spa on Rue Lafaurie de Monbadon probably fifty times before I actually stayed there, and honestly, from the outside it’s one of those places that whispers rather than shouts. Which, after spending three nights there last spring, I realize is exactly the point.

The location is pretty perfect if you know Bordeaux at all – you’re literally in the heart of the city center, but tucked onto this quiet little street that most tourists never find. I mean, you can walk to Place de la Bourse in about eight minutes (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but you won’t hear any of the late-night revelry from your room. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on, and when you step inside… well, it’s like someone took a traditional French mansion and gave it to a really sophisticated interior designer with excellent taste and probably an unlimited budget. The lobby smells faintly of sandalwood and something floral I couldn’t quite place – not overpowering, just nice.

Here’s what I actually loved: the rooms are genuinely spacious, which you don’t always get in these boutique places. Mine had these gorgeous high ceilings and windows that opened onto a tiny balcony (okay, more like a ledge, but still charming). The bathroom was ridiculous in the best way – marble everything, a soaking tub that could fit two people, and water pressure that could strip paint. The spa downstairs is small but seriously good – I did the wine therapy treatment because, hello, Bordeaux, and it was worth every euro. Staff-wise, they’re that perfect level of attentive without being hovery. The woman at reception (I think her name was Claire?) gave me the best restaurant recommendations, including this little bistro on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges that I never would have found otherwise.

If I’m being completely honest, the breakfast was good but not mind-blowing – fresh croissants and decent coffee, but nothing that’ll change your life. And the elevator is one of those tiny European ones where you’ll definitely get cozy with your suitcase. But honestly? Those are pretty minor things. The real magic is in the details – like how they leave these little macarons on your pillow at turndown, or how the concierge somehow got me last-minute reservations at Le Chapon Fin when I was certain it was impossible. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying at a wealthy friend’s house rather than a hotel, which I guess is what they’re going for. The 8.8 rating makes total sense to me – it’s not quite perfect, but it’s damn close, and you’ll definitely feel like you’re experiencing Bordeaux the way it’s meant to be experienced.

  The hotel was fantastic, the concierge was waiting to take our car to park, we were early for check in but this wasn’t a problem. Our suitcases were taken and sorted whilst we went for lunch, the staff on reception gave us multiple recommendations for restaurants. On our return our room was ready and the staff ensured the sauna and steam room were running so we could use the facilities. Nothing was too much for the staff, thank you for our wonderful stay!

  Excellent location for exploring the old town of Bordeaux. Very elegant building and well looked after. Comfortable room with a very large shower enclosure. Room was cold on arrival but reception sorted it out during our evening meal.

Sarah checked us in and helped us with restaurant recommendations, transport of our bags to the room, and answered all of our questions about Bordeaux. She was a wonderful way for us to be introduced to the hotel and to Bordeaux.
