Honestly, when I first walked up to Lavie Maison on Rue Minvielle, I wasn’t expecting much – the street’s pretty quiet and residential, which actually turned out to be a blessing. You know what struck me immediately? How peaceful it felt compared to the tourist chaos around Place des Quinconces. The Chartrons neighborhood has this laid-back vibe that most visitors completely miss because they’re too busy hitting the obvious spots.

The studio itself is exactly what it says on the tin – equipped and functional, though I mean that in the best way possible. Everything you actually need is there: a decent kitchenette (the coffee maker works properly, thank god), good water pressure in the shower, and enough space to spread out your stuff without living out of a suitcase. The 3-star rating feels about right – it’s not fancy, but it’s genuinely comfortable. What really won me over was the attention to small details… proper hangers in the closet, decent lighting for reading, outlets where you actually need them. You can tell someone who travels stayed here and made notes.

Location-wise, you’re in this sweet spot where you can walk to the river in about five minutes – and I’m talking about the good part of the riverfront, not the touristy bits. There’s this little morning market on Cours de Verdun (maybe a 7-minute walk?) where locals actually shop, and honestly, grabbing fresh bread there became my favorite part of each morning. The antique shops along Rue Notre Dame are right there too, though they’re hit or miss depending on what you’re into. Parking can be tricky – street spots fill up fast, but there’s a garage about two blocks away that’s not too expensive by Bordeaux standards. The area gets pretty quiet after 9 PM, which some people love and others might find too sleepy, especially if you’re used to staying right in the old town where there’s always something happening.

What really makes this place work is that it feels like staying in an actual neighborhood rather than a hotel bubble. You’ll hear church bells in the morning (not obnoxiously early, thankfully), and there’s this great little wine bar – Cave de la Monnaie – literally around the corner where the owner actually knows his stuff and won’t try to oversell you. The tram stop is close enough to be convenient but far enough that you’re not dealing with constant noise. I stayed here during what turned out to be a pretty busy weekend in the city, and while other parts of Bordeaux were packed, Chartrons maintained this calm, almost village-like feeling that made coming back at the end of the day actually relaxing rather than just necessary.

  Tiny studio apartment in a very good location, close to the tram stop and many good restaurants and bars. The street is relatively quiet. Very good equipment (kitchen, washer-dryer machine, iron, hair dryer). Relatively large and comfy bathroom. Good wifi.

  The location in Chatron was great. The C tram was almost on the doorstep. The rooms were small but modern, clean and comfortable. Access to the apartments was also very clear. We had 2 apartments for our family and we’re given the end apartments which meant we could keep the doors open between the 2. Bathrooms were clean and had body wash available. Had a dishwasher that we didn’t use. A washer/dryer which was handy and small bar fridges to keep the water cool. We cooked breakfast once and all the pans, toasters and utensils were available: The sofa beds were comfortable. Hosts were responsive and helpful. My niece loved the big TV screen and it had Netflix so she was happy:
