Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about La Villa Desvaux de Marigny? The name sounds way fancier than you’d expect for a 3-star place, but honestly, that pretty much sums up this little gem – it punches way above its weight class. I mean, you’re right on Rue de Marseille in the heart of Bordeaux’s city center, which puts you maybe a 5-minute walk from Place Gambetta and all those gorgeous 18th-century facades. The building itself has this understated French elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” but sort of whispers “I’ve got stories to tell.”

The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully compact – not huge by any stretch, but everything’s exactly where it should be. What really gets me is the attention to detail here; the linens actually feel good (you know how some hotels have that scratchy, over-washed feel?), and the bathrooms are surprisingly well-appointed for the price point. I stayed during wine harvest season last September, and while the area gets pretty busy with tourists doing the whole Bordeaux wine thing, the hotel itself stays refreshingly calm. The staff – and this might sound small but it matters – actually remember your name after the first day. There’s this woman at the front desk who knows exactly which nearby boulangerie opens earliest (it’s the one on Rue Porte Dijeaux, by the way) and which metro stops to avoid during rush hour.

Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where you can walk to the major sights without feeling like you’re in the thick of tourist central. The Garonne river is literally a few blocks away, and if you’re into that whole riverside evening stroll thing, the walk along Quai des Chartrons is perfect just as the sun’s setting. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare – I mean, it’s downtown Bordeaux, so that’s kind of expected – but there’s a decent public garage about two blocks over on Cours de l’Intendance. One thing I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re surrounded by restaurants and bars. The windows actually block out street noise, which isn’t something you can say about every place in this neighborhood. Look, is it the Ritz? Obviously not. But for what you’re paying, and especially with that 9.3 rating (which, honestly, feels about right), you’re getting this perfect balance of authentic French hospitality and modern comfort. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bordeaux, not just sleeping there between tourist activities.

This is a superb b&b, immaculately clean, excellent breakfast served every morning home made yogurts, home made museli and home made jams plus eggs and cooked meat and fresh fruit salad very, very enjoyable.
Bruno was an excellent host and advised us on best way to get from airport. There is a bus about a 2 minute walk from b & b which takes you into the centre of Bordeaux for €1.70.
Room is thoroughly cleaned every day.

Would definitely recommend a stay here.

This period house is quirky and charming, stuffed full of antiques, objets and all lovingly cared for. Huge attention to detail. Our room was well appointed and comfortable. Spotlessly clean. Our host was charming and couldn't have been more helpful with maps and suggestions. Breakfast was excellent – all home made with particularly delicious home made jams and yoghurt. Location is good with transport nearby to get into the centre and an assortment of cafes 5 mins away as well as the magnificent St Seurin basilica. A great base for visiting Bordeaux.
