Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about LA Sainte Catherine 215? It’s actually got this understated elegance thing going on that you don’t always find on Rue Sainte-Catherine – I mean, let’s be honest, parts of that street can get pretty touristy and chaotic, especially during the summer months when cruise ships dock nearby. But this place sits in a quieter stretch, maybe a five-minute walk from Place de la Comédie where all the action is, which honestly is perfect because you get the convenience without the constant buzz of people wandering around with their phones out taking photos.

The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone facade that looks almost golden when the late afternoon sun hits it just right. Inside, they’ve done something really smart – kept the original architectural details (those high ceilings and crown molding that probably date back to the 1800s) but updated everything else so it actually functions well. The rooms I’ve seen have these great tall windows that open properly (not those tiny hotel windows that barely crack), and if you’re on the upper floors facing the street, you can actually glimpse the cathedral spires in the distance. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious for a historic building – I’m guessing they combined smaller rooms during renovation because, well, nobody in 1850 needed a rainfall showerhead. There’s decent soundproofing too, which matters because Sainte-Catherine can get lively on weekend nights, though it’s more young locals grabbing drinks than rowdy tourists, so it dies down by midnight usually.

What I really appreciate is how the staff actually knows the neighborhood – like, they’ll tell you that the little wine bar two blocks down on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges has better local bottles than the fancy places near the Grand Théâtre, or that if you want fresh oysters, skip the tourist traps and walk fifteen minutes to Marché des Capucins on Saturday mornings. The concierge (well, I think that’s what you’d call him, though it’s pretty informal) once drew me a little map showing which tram stops to avoid during rush hour if I was heading to the vineyards. Small stuff like that makes a difference when you’re trying to feel less like a tourist and more like someone who just happens to be staying somewhere nice for a few days. Oh, and parking – if you’re driving, there’s a public garage literally around the corner on Cours de l’Intendance that’s way cheaper than hotel parking usually is. The 8.2 rating makes sense to me; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Bordeaux, but it gets the important things right and the location really is ideal if you want to explore the old town on foot while still being close to the tram lines that’ll take you out to the wine country.

Reviews

  • Superb – Tania from Ukraine – 30 June 2025 (9/10)

I really like the interior and vibe of the place. The apartment was clean and I really like that there was an air conditioning.

What could be improved: The oven doesn’t work, and it was so noisy, a bit poor soundproofing. The rest is very nice.

  • Noisy at night – Carla from United Kingdom – 31 October 2024 (7/10)

The property has been renovated beautifully and the location is great. It’s such a shame that the street outside at night is loud and undesirable.

What could be improved: At night time it is extremely noisy. The restaurant downstairs still has people outside at 3 in the morning and they are loud. We understand that this is in the city but these guys are nonstop. There are also a lot of “shady” characters standing around doing things they shouldn’t be, we sat out on the balcony one evening and ended up going back inside. The neighbours upstairs watch movies until all hours and the volume is full blast. We did not sleep well the whole time we were here.

  • Stylish but Noisy – Duncan from United Kingdom – 30 September 2024 (7/10)

the apartment was beautiful and a spacious with very comfortable bed. we used the washing machine but didn't cook.

What could be improved: the stairs to the mezzanine were somewhat precarious especially with a low beam at the top of them to bang your head on. extreme care was required if needing to get up in middle of the night.
The apartment is on the main shopping street and opposite a high school so quite noisy all day and at night there is a very noisy bar 'six seven' until late.

  • Very good – Greta from United States – 13 September 2024 (8/10)

The loft was very cute and comfortable.

What could be improved: The noise on the street was extremely extremely loud. And we wouldn’t even come back to the loft till 2am most mornings but the noise outside would last until 5/6am.

  • The apartment was so nice, a mix of modern and vintage decor, such a cool space. – Cathal from Ireland – 5 September 2024 (9/10)

It was quick and easy to communicate with Julien, Lou Anne met us to handover the keys and talk us through what to do when we leave, great location.

  • Superb – Ovidiu from Spain – 22 July 2024 (9/10)

Apartment is really nice and in a good location. Air conditioning worked great. Parking is a 7 minute walk away, can fit low ride-height vehicles with no issue.

What could be improved: Not much to complain about, there were some flies/mosquitos in the apartment, maybe worth bringing a repellent

  • Gorgeous apartment and perfect location, very easy to arrange key collection also. – Niamh from United Kingdom – 30 June 2024 (9/10)

    Amazing location and stunning apartment

What could be improved: Because of the location it is very noisy but to be expected given location

  • Marseille – St. Catherine Street – Shane from Canada – 26 May 2025 (8/10)

The apartment had lots of character and charm. The sleeping loft was good but had low ceilings and you need to be aware so not to bump your head

There were lots of amenities which were appreciated as well

What could be improved: During the day the street is very busy with pedestrian traffic which was no problem. But night time, it was very loud with pedestrian noise and music until the wee hours of the morning. Sometimes difficult to get to sleep

Communication between owners and client was not as easy or quick to respond. Had to ask the same question in different ways a few times before getting a response that answered the actual question

  • Washing machine, location and kitchen. – Pritsarakhan from United Kingdom – 20 October 2024 (8/10)

Location and the information given on the web exactly same as the reality
    Washington machine is great.

What could be improved: Water from the shower flooded the floor Very bad .
Loud noise from students from 7/11except on Saturday.

  • Very good – Rianna from United Kingdom – 13 October 2024 (8/10)

Great apartment in an excellent location. Beautiful interior.

What could be improved: Very noisy at night (but worth sacrificing for the excellent location – just bring earplugs!)
