Hotel Description

You know what caught me off guard about La Petite Échoppe? The name literally means “the little shop,” and honestly, that’s exactly what this place feels like – but in the best possible way. Tucked away on Rue Binaud in the Chartrons district, it’s got this intimate, almost secretive vibe that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something special. I mean, Chartrons itself is already one of those neighborhoods where you can actually breathe (unlike some parts of central Bordeaux), and this little four-star gem sits right in the sweet spot where you’re close enough to walk to the antique dealers on Rue Notre-Dame but far enough from the tourist crowds that you can actually hear yourself think.

The building has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on – you know, those honey-colored stones that look golden when the afternoon light hits just right. Inside though, they’ve done something really clever with the design. It’s boutique without being precious about it, if that makes sense. The rooms aren’t huge (this is France, after all), but they’ve maximized every inch without making it feel cramped. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – Rue Binaud can get a bit lively, especially when people are heading to and from the riverside, but once you’re inside, it’s surprisingly quiet. The staff actually knows the neighborhood too, which sounds basic but you’d be amazed how rare that is. They’ll tell you which direction to walk for the best morning coffee (hint: it’s toward Cours Portal), or that the Saturday antique market gets absolutely mobbed after 10 AM so go early.

Here’s the thing about staying in Chartrons – you’re basically living like a local, but with hotel service. You can walk down to the Garonne in about eight minutes, catch the tram into central Bordeaux when you want the full tourist experience, but then retreat back to this quieter pocket where the wine bars aren’t packed with bachelor parties. La Petite Échoppe gets this balance perfectly. They’ve got that 9.2 rating because they nail the details that matter – decent Wi-Fi, proper shower pressure, and breakfast that doesn’t feel like an afterthought. Plus, and this might sound silly, but the key cards actually work consistently, which… well, you know how hotel key cards usually are. The whole experience just feels thoughtful rather than formulaic, like someone who actually travels designed it instead of a committee. If you’re the type who wants to explore Bordeaux but also wants to come back somewhere that feels more like a neighborhood hideaway than a generic hotel, this is your spot.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Bordeaux at least two months ahead of their visit to ensure availability and secure better rates, especially during the peak summer season when the city hosts numerous cultural festivals.

Easy to find, self-contained apartment at bottom of garden with own entrance. We let ourselves in using the clear instructions to access a key safe. The apartment was well equipped with a washing machine, induction hob, microwave and coffee machine.
30 min walk to centre of Bordeaux via a pleasant path along the riverside.
There was no direct contact with the hosts, but they responded immediately when we had a query.
We were able to store our bicycles uncovered in the courtyard.

  • Mie from Denmark (9/10)

It was private, quiet, modern and clean.

  • Braden from Canada (9/10)

The apartment had everything you could need. Very clean and brand new. The owner had also provided us with some basic food items, like coffee, tea, sugar, oil-vinegar, etc. plus a bottle of Bordeaux wine on arrival! Because it is located in the backyard of a house, it is very quiet. Only a 5-minute walk to the nearest tram (line C), which will take you to the St Jean train station and the lively downtown area. A very nice place to base from and discover the beautiful city of Bordeaux.

  • Imane from Morocco (10/10)

  • Francine from France (9/10)

Très bien situé, au calme, très joli. Tt nous a plu.

  • Laure from France (10/10)

Le calme sans égal du logement ainsi que la beauté de sa déco. Mention spéciale pour la literie de la chambre et l’ensemble des oreillers car il est rare d’être aussi confortablement logé.
