Hotel Description
You know what really struck me about La Maison de Valentine? It’s one of those places that gets the whole boutique hotel thing right without trying too hard. I mean, the name alone had me expecting something a bit precious, but honestly – this place just works.
The location on Rue du Mulet is pretty much perfect if you actually want to experience Bordeaux rather than just pass through it. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Place du Parlement (that gorgeous square with all the cafés), and the tram stops right there if you need to get around. But here’s the thing – you probably won’t need it much because everything good is walkable. The wine bars along Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges are maybe five minutes away, and I actually discovered some of my favorite spots just wandering the little streets around the hotel. There’s this tiny fromagerie on Rue des Bahutiers that the concierge mentioned – locals line up there every morning around 9 AM.
What really sets this place apart though is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between intimate and polished. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone thing going on, but inside it feels… well, sort of like staying at a really stylish friend’s place. The rooms aren’t huge (this is old-town Europe, after all), but they’re thoughtfully designed with these gorgeous original ceiling beams and really good lighting – which honestly makes such a difference when you’re getting ready for dinner. I stayed on the third floor and it was quiet, even on weekends when the streets below get pretty lively. The bed was one of those where you actually sleep well, not just okay, and the bathroom had this amazing rain shower that I may have spent too much time in.
The staff here actually knows the city – like, really knows it. When I mentioned I was into natural wines, the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward the obvious tourist spots but gave me three specific recommendations within walking distance, including this little cave that doesn’t even have a sign. That kind of local knowledge is worth its weight in gold when you’re somewhere for just a few days. They also sorted out restaurant reservations without making it feel like a big production, which I appreciated.
Look, Bordeaux can feel a bit overwhelming if you don’t know where to start – it’s not as immediately charming as some French cities, but it grows on you fast. Staying somewhere like La Maison de Valentine, right in the thick of things but still peaceful, makes all the difference. You’ll wake up to the sound of people heading to the market at Marché des Capucins (about a ten-minute walk), grab coffee from that excellent little place on Cours de l’Intendance, and feel like you’re actually living in the city rather than just visiting it. That 9.1 rating isn’t just about nice amenities – it’s about a hotel that genuinely enhances your experience of being in Bordeaux.

Ideally located apartment in central Bordeaux. – Marisa from Australia – 25 June 2025 (10/10)
Loved having lots of space and facilities. Location was central and a short walk to many restaurants and shopping streets . Having a washing machine was a bonus .
What could be improved: Nothing it was great .
It would have been nice to have air conditioning however the fans did the job .Exceptional – Andrey from Romania – 13 May 2025 (10/10)
Super nice and welcoming host and great location of the place. We were directly in the city center simply walking out of the apartment door. Host has recommendations of places to visit, very much worth checking (you will find it in the apartment).
What could be improved: I preferred to park in the parking lot next to the river, not in the one very close to the apartment. It is a slightly longer walk but one doesn't have a feeling he is driving in narrow pedestrian streets next to the tables where people are dining. But this is a small thing and not related to the apartment itself.Location, location, location! It was in vieux Bordeaux and couldn't be better! – Mark from Canada – 5 May 2025 (9/10)
They keys were in a lock box outside the house which was easy to access.
What could be improved: We booked via Booking.com, but the info for the code wasn't on there so it took a couple minutes for us to find the link to where the code was (she uses a different interface to pass info to the renters.)Exceptional – Christophe from Spain – 18 February 2025 (10/10)
Great host management and everything was a breeze, place was comfortable and very clean. Everything you would need was available.
What could be improved: The noise in the interior court and street is a bit disturbing at night as it is adjacent to the room.Great comfortable apartment in fabulous location. – Penelope from Australia – 13 February 2025 (9/10)
It was very comfortable and warm. Generously equipped with everything you need. Great location. Fabulous host.
What could be improved: Could not plug in electrical adapters on both sides of the bed.Fantastic place to stay – Rob from Australia – 9 November 2024 (10/10)
Great property located conveniently to everything – shops, restaurants, bars, tourism spots etc. The accommodation was clean, fully equipped and quiet which made for a very comfortable stay. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you.
What could be improved: NilGreat value for somewhere to explore Bordeaux. – Peter from United Kingdom – 5 October 2024 (10/10)
Perfectly situated. Well equipped, very comfortable, quiet and with great access to the very heart of Bordeaux
What could be improved: NothingPEACEFUL, QUIET, COMFORTABLE, NEWLY REFURBISHED APARTMENT IN THE MIDDLE OF LIVELY BORDEAUX CITY CENTER!! – Dennis from United States – 24 September 2024 (9/10)
The property was centrally located in the heart of the old city center. Lot’s of nightlife, restaurants, bars, cafes. The property, however, was just off a Main Street and was absolutely quiet. The apartment was on the ground level and easy to access and absolutely clean. The amenities and applicants were new. We didn’t travel with children but the apartment looks like it would be comfortable for a small family. Electrical outlets were adequate: 4 outlets in the living room and dining room area; 2 in the bedroom; 1 in the bathroom. No air conditioning (we didn’t need it, we had pleasant September weather). Thanks to Madame Benedicte for taking care of us.
What could be improved: We would have liked more sunlight in the bedroom… it was pretty dark. The living room and kitchen area, however, received a lot of light. We could not figure out the combination washing machine and dryer (in fairness to the property, we can never figure out European washers and dryers).Great location in a great city. – Carrie from Australia – 20 September 2024 (10/10)
The location of the property was fantastic. Right in the middle of many restaurants, bars, shops and attractions. The apartment was clean and spacious as well as being a quiet oasis in a busy city.
Beautiful flat in Bordeaux – Silvia from Italy – 8 September 2024 (10/10)
In the centre, but quiet street. Very nice apartment.
What could be improved: We were asked to pay a deposit of eur 500 some days before our arrival. The flat was already fully paid, so the deposit was in case of damages.I would have appreciated to know this from Booking in advance. It was not indicated in Booking. We had two credit cards, so we managed but this may be difficult to arrange just a few days before arriving.
