Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about La Maison de Sebea? It’s actually tucked away on this quiet residential street – rue de Lalande – that most tourists would walk right past without noticing. I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from Place Gambetta (which honestly gets pretty hectic during market days), but once you turn onto this street, it’s like stepping into a different world. The building itself has that classic Bordeaux limestone facade that looks almost golden when the afternoon light hits it just right, and there’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole setup. The entrance is modest – no flashy signage or doormen in fancy uniforms – just a simple door that opens into this surprisingly elegant lobby with original hardwood floors that creak slightly underfoot.

The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than Instagram-perfect, if that makes sense. Mine had these tall windows that opened onto a small courtyard where you could actually hear birds in the morning instead of traffic noise, which was honestly a relief after staying in some of the busier parts of the city center. The bathroom was compact but well-planned (heated floors, which you don’t always get even in four-star places), and the bed was genuinely comfortable – not too soft, not too firm. What really won me over were the little touches that showed someone was actually thinking about guest experience: proper reading lights, enough electrical outlets, and – this might sound silly – but decent water pressure in the shower. The décor leans traditional French without being stuffy about it, lots of warm fabrics and antique-style furniture that doesn’t feel like it came from a hotel catalog.

Location-wise, you’re perfectly positioned to explore both the historic center and some of the neighborhoods that locals actually hang out in. The Capucins market is maybe a ten-minute walk, and if you’re into wine (I mean, you’re in Bordeaux), there are some fantastic smaller wine bars along rue des Remparts that most guidebooks don’t mention. Parking can be a bit tricky – there’s no hotel garage, but there’s usually street parking available if you’re willing to walk a block or two. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well; they pointed me toward this incredible bakery on rue Judaïque that I never would have found otherwise. Honestly, with a 7.7 rating, I was expecting something decent but not particularly memorable, but La Maison de Sebea surprised me. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying in Bordeaux rather than just visiting it, and sometimes that makes all the difference.

It is very well located in a quiet street. Sandrine is very kind and always helpful. There was a parking space for the car

  • Excellent value and location. – Graham from United Kingdom – 4 August 2024 (8/10)

The space is well thought out. The bed was on a mezzanine floor. There were cooking facilities, food storage areas, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher and sink. There is a TV. The shower was very nice and mostt importantly there is air con and a fan. Very safe as it's behind a security door. The location is very good, close to the tram and bus which serves the whole city. Nice and quiet.

What could be improved: Nothing not to dislike.

  • Perfect place for 2 to stay in Bordeaux for some days. Clear recommendation!! – Holger from Germany – 13 August 2023 (9/10)

Very Good location next to the Synagoge and near to all Hot spots. Equipped with all we need. Fast communication and kind and helpful service. We had to bikes for each 15 Euro to discover Bordeaux and a Safe parking space at the house.
The bed was good, everything clean and in a good shape. Aircondition working properly.

What could be improved: The Appartement opens to a small street, which is very quiet, but at night sometimes people are passing on their way from the Bars nearby. We did not mind, sensitive people might be bothered.

  • A modern, beautifully clean, large and well provisioned apartment in the heart of Bordeaux. – Sally from United Kingdom – 18 July 2023 (9/10)

Super convenient location for the heart of the city – couldn’t have been much better in that respect. Extremely clean and well provisioned apartment. Modern, slightly quirky decor. Enormous TV, enormous fridge and freezer, washing machine and dishwasher, great facilities, most of which we felt bad for not using as we were there for such a short trip. A lovely big space for 4 but plenty of room for 4 more people with its 4 twin or double bedrooms, two toilets and 3 showers though we didn’t attempt to use the quirky shower that had was simply open in our room with no curtain or doors to it, preferring the conventional one in the hallway.

What could be improved: Perfect for a young, fit family of four (with teenagers) for a couple of nights but possibly a touch annoying to have to scale the many (60+) steps to the attic roof apartment on a more regular basis. Not all of the eight beds were made up because we were a family of four, which makes perfect sense for economical housekeeping, but it created arguments about who slept where. My husband and I would have preferred the bigger brighter room with full height ceiling but the only double bed made up was in a room with an attic slanting roof. Our youngest (and shortest) would have preferred the room we had, but the made-up bed configurations meant it wasn’t possible.

  • Fantastic location. Quirky interiors – Catherine from United Kingdom – 4 July 2023 (9/10)

Location. Near the tram, great for airport transfer. Easy walk to the centre. 20 mins walk to the river.
Lots of restaurants nearby. supermarket 2 mins away.. Great communication with the host. Comfy beds.

What could be improved: Nothing. Minor point, the steps to hot tub to be swept to avoid taking bits of tree in the water
