Hotel Description

So I stumbled onto La Maison De Blanche almost by accident – you know how it is when you’re wandering around Chartrons and suddenly spot this gorgeous white mansion that looks like it jumped straight out of a Belle Époque postcard. I mean, Avenue Emile Counord isn’t exactly the main drag, but honestly? That’s what makes this place special. You’re tucked away from the tourist chaos but still walking distance to everything that actually matters in Bordeaux.

The thing about staying here is that you really feel like you’re living in the neighborhood rather than just visiting it. There’s this little boulangerie maybe two minutes away where I grabbed croissants every morning (the owner’s daughter speaks perfect English if your French is rusty), and the Saturday market on Quai des Chartrons is close enough that you can hear the vendors setting up if you’re an early riser. The rooms themselves – well, they’re not huge, but they’ve got character in spades. Mine had these tall windows that actually opened (thank god, because French hotels can get stuffy) and looked out onto a quiet courtyard where you could hear birds instead of traffic. The WiFi was solid, which matters if you’re trying to upload photos or catch up on work, and the shower pressure was surprisingly good for an older building. I will say the walls are a bit thin – not terrible, but you might hear your neighbors if they’re having animated conversations about their day exploring the wine bars.

What really won me over was how the staff treated the place like their own home. The woman at reception (I think her name was Marie?) knew exactly which metro stop to use for different parts of the city and actually drew me a little map showing the fastest walking route to Place de la Bourse. She also warned me that the elevator is… well, let’s call it vintage, so if you’ve got heavy bags, maybe request a lower floor. The breakfast was simple but done right – good coffee, local jams, and bread that tasted like it came from somewhere within a few blocks rather than a factory. You eat in this bright little room that feels more like someone’s dining room than a hotel restaurant. For a 3-star place, La Maison De Blanche punches way above its weight because it gets the fundamentals right and adds those little touches that make you want to come back. The Chartrons neighborhood itself is having this amazing renaissance – you’ve got wine shops, vintage boutiques, and some seriously good restaurants all within a few blocks, but it still feels authentically Bordeaux rather than sanitized for tourists.

The location, the decor, the blackout curtains, the size of the room, and the cleanliness. I honestly wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bordeaux. This is an apartment hotel so not for everyone, if you are looking for a full reception, drinks in the lobby, staff on hand, and gyms/pools, this is not for you! This is more like living in a very boutique apartment block. Tip- room 1 was on the corner so two street views, also do not miss out on the beautiful square 5min walk with all its bustling restaurants, such a vibe!

  • Meryl from Australia (9/10)

The location is excellent right by the tram and the breakfast was a delight each morning. Ear plugs were supplied, probably due to the busy corner position but the double glazing meant the noise was not a problem.

  • Malcolm from United Kingdom (8/10)

Well furnished, well equiped and stylish accommodation. All as above and yes the breakfast was good.

  • Paula from United States (8/10)

Clean and great location for walking
