Hotel Description
Honestly, I almost walked past La dépendance verte the first time I tried to find it on Rue Paul Proteau – it’s tucked into this quiet residential stretch in Cauderan that feels more like someone’s neighborhood than a hotel district. But that’s actually what makes it work so well. You’re staying in what feels like a proper Bordeaux suburb, where locals walk their dogs in the morning and kids bike to school, not some touristy bubble downtown.
The building itself has that classic French charm without trying too hard – you know what I mean, those cream-colored stone walls and green shutters that look like they’ve been there forever (and probably have). Inside, it’s clean and comfortable in that straightforward way that three-star places do best when they’re not pretending to be something fancier. The rooms are decent-sized, which surprised me honestly, and mine had this little balcony that looked out over the residential street. Nothing spectacular, but I actually loved having my coffee there in the mornings watching the neighborhood wake up. The Wi-Fi worked fine, the shower had good pressure – those practical things that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days.
What really sold me on this place was the location, though it might not seem obvious at first. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto the main tourist drags, but Cauderan connects to central Bordeaux so easily by tram (the line runs regularly, takes maybe 15 minutes to get downtown). And here’s the thing locals know – this area has some fantastic little bistros and wine bars that tourists never find. There’s this amazing bakery two blocks down that does proper croissants, and I mean proper ones, not the sad hotel breakfast versions. Plus, parking isn’t the nightmare it is in the city center if you’re driving. The hotel staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than just going through the motions – they gave me actual restaurant recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. I mean, they steered me toward this incredible little wine cave about ten minutes away where I ended up spending way too much on bottles to take home. The whole experience felt refreshingly normal, if that makes sense – like staying in a place where real people live rather than some sanitized hotel corridor. For the price point and that solid 8-out-of-10 rating, it delivers exactly what it promises without any pretense.

Very good – Maeva from France – 5 August 2022 (8/10)
What could be improved: Rien
