Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to La Dependance on rue Jean Renaud Dandicolle, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The street’s pretty quiet (which turned out to be a blessing), and from the outside it has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look at me” like some places do. But once you’re inside, you get it – this is one of those spots where they’ve put real thought into making you feel at home, not just checked into another hotel.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling boutique-y without being pretentious about it. The rooms actually feel lived-in rather than sterile, you know? And honestly, for a 4-star place, the attention to detail surprised me. I mean, you’ll find those little touches that show someone who runs this place actually cares – proper lighting for reading (thank god), decent water pressure, and none of that tissue-paper bedding you sometimes get. The Cocoonr management seems to get that business travelers and leisure folks want the same basic things: comfort without the fuss.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location is sort of perfect if you want to experience Bordeaux like you’re not completely a tourist. You’re close enough to walk to the main action around Place de la Bourse and the wine bars along the Garonne, but you’re tucked away on a residential street where you can actually sleep at night. Parking’s not a nightmare either, which if you’ve driven in Bordeaux, you’ll understand is basically a miracle. The area gets busy during wine harvest season – well, everywhere in Bordeaux gets busy then – but even when the city’s packed, this little pocket stays relatively calm. I found myself walking to that great morning market at Marché des Capucins (maybe 15 minutes on foot), and there’s a solid café literally around the corner where locals actually go, not just tourists taking Instagram photos of their croissants. The whole setup just works, you know what I mean? It’s the kind of place where you can imagine staying for work and not feeling trapped, or bringing someone for a weekend and actually impressing them without breaking the bank.

The concierge service in Bordeaux can arrange exclusive wine tastings at prestigious châteaux, secure reservations at Michelin-starred restaurants, and organize personalized tours of the UNESCO World Heritage historic district.

  Good location, residential area but close to tram stop and also easy to walk around. Nice apartment, very spacious, good outdoor space
  
  What could be improved: Minor gripes but would benefit from extra mugs and tumblers as sleeps 5 but only 2 tumblers. Would also be good if a tablet or powder was provided for washing machine.

  House is big with terrace. Location is just enough hidden to offer decent privacy.
  
  What could be improved: Central heating was not heating enough. We had difficulties to raise the temperature. There are absolutely no wardrobes to put your cloths in.

  What could be improved: No dishcloth to wipe down counter/tables; and air con only in one bedroom – this would not normally be a problem except it was unseasonably hot – 38 degrees at day and 29-31 @ night.

  The location was excellent. It was very quiet and tucked away, but just a short walk away from the city centre. Although it was a largely residential area (and very attractive too), there were a lot of local restaurants that we went to.
  
  The hosts were very responsive when we had a problem with wi-fi and hot water although an arrival time before 5pm would have allowed us to resolve it – possibly – the same day rather than having to wait until the next day.
  
  What could be improved: Two main problems:
  – the hot water was a problem. Even though someone came out to look at it – and it did get better – it remained intermittent.
  – the main room was a bit odd in terms of the layout. It did feel like being in a waiting room. The main issue was the provision of plates etc. It was the minimum needed. For example, there were exactly 4 mis-matched mugs for 4 people. So the facilities were quite good, but hardly generous and we had to wash our mugs after every coffee.

  In walking distance to the city centre, quiet neighbourhood and well-kept property. In order to get to the house one passes a private courtyard which offers a car park for guests, then another locked gate. We felt very safe! The house is more comfortable than the photos suggest. We went in April when the weather was perfect, but we imagine it can get quite hot in summer.

  What could be improved: Extremely hot inside. We couldn’t check in till after 5 pm, and the batteries in the air conditioner remote were dead. They suggested to us that we should open the doors to cool the place down and draw the blinds!, This should have been done for us prior to arrival. The outdoor area was dirty and the plant on the deck dead. The outdoor furniture was not clean enough to use, very old and out dated. Nothing like the photos on the website. There were also a lot of mosquitoes, we had to go and buy our own insect repellent.
