Hotel Description
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Bordeaux, and La Cabane D’Ambroise honestly caught me off guard – in the best way possible. You know that feeling when you book something online and you’re just hoping it doesn’t disappoint? Well, this little gem on Rue Ambroise actually exceeded what I was expecting. It’s tucked into this quiet residential street that most tourists never stumble across, maybe a 12-minute walk from Place de la Bourse (where everyone takes those mirror photos). The building itself has this understated French elegance – not flashy, but you can tell someone put real thought into every detail.
What really got me was how they’ve managed to feel both intimate and polished at the same time. The rooms have this warm, lived-in sophistication – I mean, the bed linens were ridiculously soft, and there’s actual art on the walls, not those generic hotel prints that make you want to look away. My room overlooked a small courtyard where you could hear birds in the morning instead of traffic, which was honestly perfect after walking around the wine bars near Quai des Chartrons until way too late. The bathroom was compact but thoughtfully designed – heated floors, which you don’t realize you need until you’re padding around at 7 AM. Check-in was refreshingly personal too; the staff actually seemed to know the neighborhood and gave me specific restaurant recommendations (try L’Entrecôte if you end up there – it’s about five minutes away and locals pack the place).
Here’s the thing about this area of Bordeaux – it’s residential enough that you feel like you’re getting a glimpse of how people actually live, but you’re still close enough to everything that matters. The tram stop at Musée d’Aquitaine is maybe an eight-minute walk, so getting to the train station or out to the wine regions is straightforward. Parking can be tricky around there (like most of central Bordeaux), but the hotel helped sort that out without making it feel like a huge ordeal. I stayed in early October when the city starts to quiet down after summer, and honestly, that felt like perfect timing – warm enough for evening walks along the Garonne, but not crowded with tour groups. The 9.7 rating makes sense once you’re there; it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in the city, but everything they do, they do really well. You leave feeling like you discovered something special rather than just stayed somewhere convenient.

This place is beautiful – lovely large rooms with balconies, a lovely outdoor space and a shared kitchen. With only four rooms it felt like a b&b, and the host was so lovely and accommodating. It’s on a quiet street just 15-20 mins walk from everything. We walked everywhere!

I don’t normally eat breakfast but had a bowl of fruit and a croissant, which was a treat.
I particularly liked eating breakfast outdoors and having a drink and a chat at the pool side in the late afternoons.Benjamin from United Kingdom (10/10)

Beautiful accommodation with excellent facilities.Quiet and peaceful location. The continental breakfast was good with the added choice of freshly cooked eggs. The room was spacious with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. It was great to have the pool to come back to after a day of sightseeing in the hot weather.Close to the main train station. I would definitely stay again when in Bordeaux. An oasis in a busy city.
