Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about JOST Hôtel? It’s tucked away on Rue des Ateliers, which honestly sounds way more industrial than it actually is – I mean, the street does have that slightly gritty edge you’d expect near Gare Saint Jean, but in a good way. The whole area has this authentic Bordeaux vibe that tourist-heavy spots closer to the Grand Théâtre just don’t capture. When I rolled my suitcase up to the entrance, I was expecting something pretty basic for a 3-star place, but the lobby actually surprised me with its clean, modern lines and this warm lighting that immediately made the travel fatigue feel less… overwhelming.

The location is honestly what makes this place work so well. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the train station (which, let’s be honest, is a godsend when you’re hauling luggage), but you’re also close enough to the Chartrons district that you can easily wander over for wine tastings without dealing with tram schedules. I spent one evening just walking along the Garonne – it’s maybe fifteen minutes on foot – and realized how perfectly positioned this hotel is for people who want to actually explore rather than just hit the obvious tourist spots. The neighborhood gets quiet at night too, which I wasn’t expecting given how close you are to all the transport links. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional late tram, but it’s more of a gentle urban hum than anything disruptive.

What really won me over, though, was how the staff seemed to actually know the city. The guy at reception (I think his name was Antoine?) didn’t just hand me a generic map – he marked up specific wine bars in Chartrons and mentioned that Thursday evenings, the organic market on Cours de l’Intendance stays open later than usual. These are the kinds of details that make you feel like you’re getting an insider’s perspective rather than the standard tourist treatment. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, and thankfully, actual closet space (not just those weird European wardrobes that fit exactly two shirts). The WiFi worked perfectly, which matters more than it should when you’re trying to research dinner spots or figure out museum hours. I’ll admit the breakfast situation is pretty standard continental fare, but there’s a fantastic bakery called Du Pain et des Idées just around the corner that honestly beats hotel pastries anyway. For the price point and that 8.1 rating, JOST delivers exactly what it promises – a comfortable base that lets you experience Bordeaux like someone who actually lives there rather than just passing through.

Reviews

  • Cool but small rooms. – Mark from United Kingdom – 19 July 2025 (8/10)

Great location (for me, 5 minutes from the train station). Very hip in terms of decor etc. the rooms are small but the communal kitchen was really useful. Staff were friendly and patient with my schoolboy French.

What could be improved: Breakfast wasn’t great for the money. Plenty of cafes near the station offering much better value.

  • Really nice location and comfortable – Mark from United Kingdom – 8 July 2025 (9/10)

Liked cleanliness, good views across city, hotel part shared as part of a hostel. Rooms very comfortable and rooftop terrace and small pool a nice touch. Buses C/D stop 1-2 mins nearby the hotel take you straight into city centre in 18/20mins. Excellent selection of multiple types of food right outside hotel lobby

What could be improved: We had 2 rooms for 2 and 3.
Glasses for drinks shouldn’t be allowed around the poolside especially 8 floors high.
Lots of construction going on around the hotel but this looks like an up and coming area.

  • Clean, close to the station, a bit of a walk to the centre. – Gareth from United Kingdom – 25 June 2025 (7/10)

Very close to the railway station (15m walk at most). Clean, the staff spoke English (shamefully I have very little French).

What could be improved: The room was small, but had everything I needed. Black switches on black walls wasn’t the most user friendly interface. It was the wrong side of the station for the town centre, so a bit of a walk in. Very good local transport though, with a helpful app, so don’t let this put you off. I would stay again as it was spotlessly clean.

  • Very pleasant only one night as it was necessary to stay close to the hospital – Paul from United Kingdom – 7 June 2025 (8/10)

Rooms were clean , staff were lovely, location was great , close to the station

What could be improved: There was no one on entry from thd road , took us a while with othdrz to find the reception

  • Very good – Kieran from United Kingdom – 3 June 2025 (8/10)

Clean , cool vibe, nice rooftop bar

What could be improved: Website didn’t make clear kitchen and washing machine for just for hostel bookings only.
Location was quite far out of city.

  • Good – Kamila from Poland – 4 May 2025 (7/10)

Nice and well thought design, fine breakfast

What could be improved: Area felt a bit shady and not fully secure at night
Still a bit noisy because of the trains

  • Great hotel a short distance from the train station. – Stephen from Australia – 25 April 2025 (9/10)

Great hotel a short walk from the train station. We would definitely stay there again next time we are in Bordeaux.

What could be improved: Nothing came to mind.

  • Very good – Carol from Canada – 24 April 2025 (8/10)

Good bike storage. Close to train station. Easy to get into historic centre and interesting area to explore around the hotel

  • Very good – Anastasiia from Spain – 16 April 2025 (8/10)

It’s great to have all staff for preparing tea and coffee with snacks on every floor. Also great to be able to use shared kitchen.

What could be improved: Breakfast was without any vegetables and there is no cooked/fried eggs, you have to do it yourself but there’s very tiny place for this, where only one person can stay. And obviously you need extra time for preparing food. And you have to ask about clean plates, spoons, cups and recharging coffee machine because staff is not refreshing it on time.

  • It was great – Philippe from France – 30 March 2025 (8/10)

    The liquid soap

    What could be improved: Nothing
