Hotel Description

Honestly, when I first walked into the InterContinental on Place de la Comédie, I wasn’t expecting much – I mean, it’s right in the thick of Bordeaux’s busiest square, so I figured it’d be all tourist trap and no substance. But wow, was I wrong. The moment you step through those doors, it’s like entering this perfectly preserved slice of old-world Bordeaux elegance, except they’ve somehow managed to make it feel completely modern without losing any of that historic charm. The lobby has this incredible soaring ceiling that makes you look up and just… pause for a second, you know?

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed the location without making you pay for it with chaos. Sure, you’re literally steps from the Grand Théâtre (and I mean literally – you can see it from some rooms), but the soundproofing is actually impressive. I stayed on the third floor facing the square and barely heard the evening crowds, which in Bordeaux can get pretty lively, especially when there’s something happening at the opera house. The rooms themselves feel genuinely luxurious – not that fake marble and gold leaf nonsense you sometimes get, but real quality. Thick linens, proper blackout curtains, and bathrooms with those deep soaking tubs that you actually want to use after walking around the cobblestones all day.

Here’s what I really appreciate though – the staff actually knows Bordeaux. When I asked about dinner recommendations, the concierge didn’t just rattle off the usual tourist spots but sent me to this incredible little wine bar on Rue du Pas-Saint-Georges that I never would’ve found otherwise. And parking, which is honestly a nightmare in this part of the city, is handled through their valet service. Worth every euro when you consider the alternative is circling the narrow streets around Cours de l’Intendance for twenty minutes. The breakfast setup is solid too – they’ve got this gorgeous dining room that overlooks the square, perfect for watching Bordeaux wake up with your coffee. I mean, sure, it’s pricey, but you’re paying for that prime real estate and the kind of service that makes you feel like you actually understand why Bordeaux has such a reputation. If you’re doing Bordeaux properly – wine tours, maybe catching something at the Grand Théâtre, exploring the Saint-Pierre district – this is exactly where you want to come back to at the end of the day.

The location, the room and the staff were wonderful. Thank you again Olivier at the reception for your kindness and attention to details. It was such a pleasure. I trully recommend this hotel, and I stayed in a lot of very expensive hotels for work, I can tell the attention to customers is the highest level I have seen for a long time.
